What are your thoughts on Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich?

The following is from ABC 7 news. In my opinion if Cardinal George does not deny him communion he will be remiss in doing his duty. This is an outrage, the legislature did not pass any law or bill authorizing this. If it goes to court you know the liberal courts will say it is OK.

 Illinois joined a handful of states Tuesday that use tax money to support stem cell research. Governor Rod Blagojevich approved $10 million dollars for work with stem cells.

The governor is taking on the Catholic Church, conservative Christians and a lot of Republicans, including President Bush, who put a ban on federal funding of new embryonic stem cell research four years ago. Bush said the use of a human embryo for science is immoral, like an abortion. But Blagojevich calls it immoral not to do everything possible to help the victims of terrible diseases and conditions that have no cure but could benefit from the use of healthy stem cells to replace diseased and damaged ones.

The governor is committing $10 million state tax dollars for embryonic stem cell research, aimed at finding cures for diseases and conditions like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, autism, leukemia, juvenile diabetes and spinal cord injuries.

There are so many things I don’t like about this Governor. This is just another in a very long list.

He’s pretty much determined himself to be a one-term governor, anyway. I’ll be glad when the elections are held again. Of course, I didn’t vote for him the first time.

We have to remember that this is also the same governor who is forcing pharmacists to fill “morning after” pills and and birth control pills. The fact that he is using state tax money to fund stem-cell research doesn’t in the least bit surprise me.

I am very angry to be living in a state under Blagojevich. Not only did he allocate $10 million for embryonic stem cell research, he did this after a bill proposing funding for embryonic stem cell research was overturned in the Illinois legislature. It was clear that the people of Illinois had spoken through their legislators, but the governor decided he knew better than those of us who want to pursue ethical avenues in medicine. I’m not even going to begin to comment about his decision to force pharmacists to give out the morning after pill regardless of their religious beliefs.

He’s made so many poor decisions for this state and I’m so ready to vote against him again that I can’t say this makes any difference in how I think about him. The sad thing is that his opponent was a really decent man who would have made a good govenor – something this state desperately needs.

Of course I had to go look it up. From what I found I think I can buy into either the “hamster” or “grinch” camp without too much additional persuasion!

All I can say is “let him who is without sin, cast the first stone!” Have we ever noticed the log in our own eyes? How dare we judge? The best we can do is pray for the man, for his conversion, his sanctification and that of his family. Remember that many who are now last will be first in God’s kingdom. May God bless us all and open our hearts.

A man filed with pride who secumbed to his nature. I pray for him and his family.

And as an aside, the 14 year sentence is a horrible misuse of justice when he did basically what is considered normal for every level of politics in the US. Show me one pol who has not profited from, or gave special consideration to individuals due to their position and power.
