What are your thoughts on women dressing modestly?

“And the Lord God said to the woman, ‘thou shalt not wear trousers.” Genesis 1:1. In theology it’s known as the “proto-commandment”… violating it is a sin that cries to heaven for vengeance.
In fact, it’s sinful for men to wear trousers too. The only sure path to salvation is to dress exactly as St John the Baptist did.
True story.

Not necessarily true. Although I think if the woman wears her pants tight enough that might be the case.
That was one of the claims in Hammond’s book. I know it’s BS now, but I was 16 and very dumb when I first read that, and it put me off pants for a while. To make matters even worse, I was a junior firefighter at the time, and every week it was Sophie’s choice as to whether I was going to commit a sin by wearing jeans, or wear a skirt and look like an idiot.

So, thanks Colleen Hammond.

I have no idea who Colleen Hammond is but I never said pants are intrinsically evil and sinful. I just said that if they get tight enough they will get unwanted attention.

Someone else brought up Colleen Hammond; that’s what I was addressing.

God bless you for caring enough to try and please God inside and out! Don’t be discouraged. God sees your heart and will reward you efforts in trying to please Him. I am new to Catholicism, but know of a few Catholic ladies who believe the same about modest dress. I share with you in your beliefs and appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts. Btw, there’s an online store called Dressing for His Glory that has modest clothing, including swimwear. If you are ever in TN there is a Christian store for ladies, with trendy clothes called Esther Lilly. May the Lord bless you!

A shoe brand famous for selling slip-on sneakers favored by skaters and 80s rock musicians. They also sponsored a big rock tour every summer for years (probably still going on although I have aged out of the demographic). It’s hilarious now to look at their website and see a lot of very conservative black and white shoes for adults - if you know where to look you can find much more interesting colors and patterns of Vans or Vans knockoffs.

That study was actually flawed. Apparently guys tend to just look at crotches (even males) but it doesn’t really have much significance behind it (ie men don’t really realize or think much about it)

I know.

It’s humorous to think of the countless women that would cite that study.

I don’t wear skirts or dresses (unless the occasion calls for it) but I would agree that it’s difficult to find clothes that do not look frumpy. I have a more liberal picture of modesty than most too (I wear skinny jeans).

In my opinion it’s pretty hard to have a whole wardrobe full of nice + modest clothes without standing out or looking the same everyday. I fall into the second category, lol. I do know that it’s easier to find modest dresses though. Cardigans always help.

I always feel so uncomfortable when I wear yoga pants to run or exercise.

Exercise wear when it is worn for exercise is fine. The Church has no problem with it. Catholic kids can take ballet or gymnastics classes or swim although I have seen online some qoutes that say those outfits are too revealing
