My belief of the existence of god. My ability to deny my skeptical mind so I can have faith.

Think of it this way.
Doubt, so called skepticism, distances us from God. Root cause could likely be pride in our intellect.
God gave us various “capacities” to help us here on earth so we could come to know Him, love Him, and serve Him while on earth, and to solve many problems for His children (via our profession and work life).
He gave us a will…that needs to be trained.
He gave us an intellect that needs to be fully developed; this intellect includes our memory, our imagination, and our reasoning capability, the capacity to make judgments about various matters. The intellect helps us to seek and find the truth about all kinds of things.
The will was given to us to use to pursue the good.
He gave us our sensitive appetites too. The intellect is classically understood to be a “rational appetite”, an inclination or an attraction to the truth!
These capacities are quite little and very limited.
They can’t possibly by themselves contain or know God in any real depth. They can however point us to knowledge of God.
Our intellect can only take us so far, quite a short distance in fact from a substantial understanding of God.
But God also gave us the capacity for faith, allowing us to acquire knowledge about Him “beyond reason” (not against reason).
So we use our intellect up to its capacity and then we use faith to get even closer to him.
Two ladders connected and extending our capacities.
