What attitudes or qualities define Catholics (as opposed to other religions)?

Belief in the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ present in the Holy Eucharist.

Obedience to authority.

Works of mercy and charity.

I just wanted to point out that your question isn’t, I’m not sure how to put it, equally weighted.

You ask for the attitudes or qualities that define Catholics (Individuals) vs other religions (organizations).

This makes it difficult to answer, because for example. Although the Catholic Church is defined by it’s attitude towards the unborn’s right to life, not all Catholics (as well as other religions) hold this attitude.

Same goes with the definition of marriage, premarital sex, contraception, assisted suicide, the list goes on and on…

The above are qualities of the Catholic Church, which I am sad to say not all Catholics hold.

Hope this helps,

God Bless

As opposed to other religions, Catholicism is the only fulfillment of prophecy. Every single other religion cannot make this claim, at least they cannot substantiate it in the way the Church can.

Therefore, Catholics are to have the attitude of Christ (the Messiah of the fulfilled prophecy); humble, merciful, charitable, generous, gentle, compassionate, welcoming, good, holy, truthful, forgiving.

I would suggest adding loving and forgiving. If all these attitudes were what defined Christianity for the past 2000 years our world would be different.

Where do you live? That is not the stereotype in most parts of the USA.
In fact I have mostly encountered the opposite stereotype, that Catholics party a lot more than many Protestants.

You mean “should” define Catholics?

I’ll take it that way…

sporting spirit
magnanimity
happily suffering
“big family spirit…we can always fit one more”
hospitality
confident in the faith
make excuses for others.
hard working, hard playing.
“son” or “daughter” spirit.

Baptism, public profession of the faith, and hierarchical communion are what makes a person Catholic.

Catholic attitudes which define a Christian:

Love, joy, peace,
Patience, kindness, generosity,
Faithfulness, gentleness, self control,
Forgiveness - against such there is no law.

Anti-Catholic attitudes which are of an anti-Christ spirit:

Immorality, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, selfishness, dissensions, factions, drinking bouts and drug abuse, orgies and the like. Those who do such things and remain impenitent shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Cross reference Galatians ch. 5.

Ah. They see the Catholics as strict because in NJ, they are probably not living around a lot of Protestant evangelicals or Protestant “reformed” church members.

In many other parts of the country, the Catholics are known for engaging in behaviors, such as drinking, that the local Protestants think are generally sinful.

Radical charity.

Radical sacrificial love as sacramentally expressed and nourished through the Eucharist.

Emulating and becoming one with Jesus, who gives himself to us completely in Communion, we give ourselves completely to others in radical charity.

This makes Catholicism wholly unique (pun intended).

Yeah, same for where I grew up a couple of states away.

Some of them will get back to it as they age and begin to see their friends and family die. I did.
