What Bible should you read .pdf?

Has any one read the book What Bible should you read by Tomas a. Nelson. I found a free .pdf of this book online at tanbooks.com/audio/wbsyr.pdf. I’ve read most of it & find it more then a little confusing. In the section where it compares translations there are a few Catholic views on scripture that I have never heard of before. What is your opinion of this book? :confused:

(Please Note: that I am not wanting to start a debate over which transitional is the best.)

Go back and read again those parts wherein the various NT passages are compared. If this booklet does not convince you to at least buy a D-R (as it did for me), nothing will.

I read that PDF. I wasn’t a big fan of it but It did have some nice points to it. I was already reading the Douay at the time so it did help me understand his POV.
 
All I can say is the author leaves the reader in no doubt as to which translation he prefers, and which we ought to read…

I could go further and say his bias is overwhelming! We all know each translation has its flaws, but that doesnt mean we can’t choose for ourselves which we want to read. I wouldnt write a pamphlet bashing every other catholic bible other than the JB just because I happen to prefer to read that.

Quite often he comes across as more of a Douay-Rheims salesman than anything else, especially in the chapter regarding those Bible quotes ‘you just love, which other translations have practically written out!’…

Erm, no, they’re just re-phrased.😛

Yes, he makes some good points, but the bad outweighs the good here, as far as I’m concerned. Yes, when I read the pamphlet I wanted to immediately reach for my DR, but I guess thats the skill of the author.
 
I wonder if they have an modern English version of the D-R or St.Jerome"s L-V ? Just curious

The Confraternity started in an attempt be a modern English version but the NT was finished and the OT didn’t. Most complete Bibles that were released were the Douay OT and the Confraternity NT. As far as English version of the Latin Vulgate, the Ronald Knox Translation would probably fit this because it was translated from the Vulgate by Msgr. Ronald Knox. Also there is a version call the Catholic Public Domain Version (CPDV). If you go to www.sacredbible.org you will find Ron Conte’s version in Latin and English it is 95% complete. He has done a wonderful job on the translation. Also with Latin text Michael Tweedale’s Biblia Sacra Juxta Vulgatam Clementinam is very recent. I received by copy of the Biblia Sacra Juxta Vulgatam Clementinam for Christmas and I read that alongside my Douay.

// i just oredered a copy of the douai-rheims bible (burgundy flex leather) after ordering the castillian version of the latin vulgate by felix torres amat (burgundy leather flex) though not because of this pamphlet… 😃
