What is the difference between the Knox Bible and the Douay-Rheims Bible? Is the Knox Bible in the same type of language as the Douay-Rheims Bible? Where can you get a Knox Bible because I can’t seem to find one?
Baronius Press is planning to print it, but that will only happen after they’ve recovered from the time and expense that’s gone into their Latin English Breviary. What is the difference between the Knox Bible and the Douay-Rheims Bible? "I, Yehoshua sent My malach (angel) to give solemn eidus (testimony) to you of these things, for the Kehillot.** I am the Shoresh (root) and the offspring of Dovid, the Kokhav HaShachar. **(Hisgalus 22:16 OJB)How art thou fallen from Shomayim, **O Heilel Ben Shachar **(Bright One of the Dawn, Day Star, Lucifer)! How art thou cast down to the earth, thou, which hast laid low the Goyim! (Yeshayah 14:12 OJB)
Note: Heilel Ben Shachar- Heilel son of Shachar- Not Shachar!
Beautiful, to the point, strong doctrine.22 The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his ways, before he made anything from the beginning. 23 I was set up from eternity, and of old, before the earth was made.
Really, now. So Jesus was created instead of begotten?22-23 "God sovereignly made me—the first, the basic—
before he did anything else.
I was brought into being a long time ago,
well before Earth got its start.
You can get it used on Amazon, sometimes cheap (below $10 for mine), and they have the New Testament new, for about $20. It’s not written in the old English of the DRC, but is much more modern. As I’ve mentioned in this thread, it’s a dynamic equivalent rendering, so it’s not good for in-depth study, but it’s excellent for reading through books, and it’s very faithful and true, if not word-for-word accurate. It carries across the sense well and is written in a decently high register of English English. What is the difference between the Knox Bible and the Douay-Rheims Bible? I was not aware of the rejection of the NAB. During my Pre-Cana class, we were given the “Catholic Couples Bible” - NAB…No, it’s not. It might be called the New American Bible, but it’s been so heavily revised by the Vatican in order to bring it in to compliance with the faith that it’s no more of an NAB than an RSV is. The NAB you can buy in book form has been rejected by the Vatican for liturgical use (although for some reason they still use it on their website, but not in their publications, for which they use the Catholic RSV, a much better and more widely-respected translation): why should we be stuck with a Bible that is unacceptable for liturgical use in our private devotions?
The SNRNAB can not be purchased in Bible form, but only as a lectionary. The “NAB” (I call it the “Second New Revised New American Bible”) used in Mass readings corrects nearly all of the problems, except for bad English, present in the NAB translation itself.
The NAB is still accepted for personal devotional use, but they wanted to improve upon the translation for use in the liturgy. Go back and read my post #7.I was not aware of the rejection of the NAB. During my Pre-Cana class, we were given the “Catholic Couples Bible” - NAB…
Was it wrong of them to give this bible to us? Is this version (Catholic Couples Bible) of the NAB acceptable or not-acceptable by the Vatican??

It’s considered acceptable for personal use but unacceptable for liturgy. My reasoning goes (without even taking in to consideration the contents of the Bible), why should we use a Bible that is rejected for the liturgy? It’s obviously defective, or it would be permissible for all uses.I was not aware of the rejection of the NAB. During my Pre-Cana class, we were given the “Catholic Couples Bible” - NAB…

It sure will. Congratulations. Read some of the Old Testament and be amazed by the prophecy and typology that shows up in places you never knew.I have to thank this thread for pushing me to act. I attend the TLM and yet read the NAB, makes no sense so yesterday I ordered a Douay-Rheims Bible. I think the translation in this Bible will be far more compatible with the scripture in my 1962 Missal by Baronius Press.
The Ronald Knox translation is looser than the D/R translation. He retained Thee and Thou although the rest of the English is mid-twentieth century. What is the difference between the Knox Bible and the Douay-Rheims Bible? I don’t understand why people have trouble understanding D-R and KJV, etc. They’re written at a 12th grade level. Is it the education system? Lack of familiarity with the style of language? Not always a felicitous turn of phrase. It may appeal to those who find the D/R English too antiquated. Ronald Knox especially shines in St. Paul’s Epistles where his English is clear and very understandable.![]()
