Good Morning!
I’m an EEM at my Parish. Normally we take month long shifts (we have a lot of volunteers) but the Mass I normally attend was short this month so I’m doing March and April.
Knowing that Easter is approaching I wanted to verify my understandings in regards to blessings.
While I participated in Protestant ministries before becoming Catholic I’m not a Deacon (hopefully someday though!).
As I’m usually at the Life Teen Mass we seem to have more and more non-Catholic’s coming for Church (Praise the Lord!).
Which begs the questions - what do I do about blessings? I understand that it’s inappropriate to bless with the Eucharist and I believe I read here last year that it’s also inappropriate to bless with the Sign of the Cross. We did this to each other during RCIA and have made it a habit of Blessing my sons once they fall asleep… yet I’m not suppose to do it as an EEM when someone approaches for a blessing?
Is this correct? If so, what should I do? I’m sure that we will have a large number of non-Catholic Christians as Easter and I want to make them feel as welcome as possible in the presence of our Lord.
Thank you!
Joe
