Father George Rutler’s book CLOUD OF WITNESSES: DEAD PEOPLE I KNEW WHEN THEY WERE ALIVE. Absolutely delightful & sometimes knee-slappin’ funny. Father Rutler’s wit/dry humor & intellect is superb!

I just got some reading homework from the nuns when I visited this morning.
Sister Mary Thomas gave me a book of vocation stories of cloistered Dominicans and Sister Mary Rose gave me a book on cloistered Dominican life and also told me to read two church documents, one JPII’s letter on consecrated life and the other is a document addressed to cloistered religious. I also just started reading a book called Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence which I can tell will be very helpful to me because that is something I struggle with quite a lot.

Totus tuus Maria! Let’s see what the good God wills.

Good for you! I would also recommend “A Memoir of Mary Ann” by the Dominican Nuns of Divine Providence House, Atlanta. Sounds like it would be right up your alley! (It’s on the best list of books recommended by the authors and editors of Ignatius Insight.)

I just finished reading The Kane Chronicles: Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan, the author of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It was good! This time, it’s about Egyptian mythology!

The book I read immediately preceding that was Accidental Missionary by Steve Murrell, the senior pastor of Victory Christian Fellowship in Manila. It tell the story of their discipleship strategy of reaching the Filipino youth and how Victory exists to honor God and make disciples.

I am reading “The Godless Delusion” by Patrick Madrid and “Sex au Naturel” By Patrick Coffin. Also, periodcally “The Life of Christ” By Archbishop Fulton Sheen.

The Napoleon of Notting Hill by G.K. Chesterton.

God bless

I’m now starting to read Ouliers by Malcolm Gladwell and a book on Human Resource Development by Perla Legaspi.

The Prudence of the Flesh: A Father Dowling Mystery by Ralph McInerny

The Loser Letters by Mary Eberstadt. A fun read/satire. A recent convert to atheism, A.F.(A Former) Christian, writes letters to the new atheists w/ tips & advice. Eberstadt is a hoot!
Just finished Father Elijah by Michael O’Brien. Read O’Briens **Island of the World **last month. Will read another one of his novels soon.

Secrets in the Hills: A Josefina Mystery

I grew up reading the American Girl series, so when I found out that they wrote new books for the historical characters, I couldn’t resist picking them up and reading them myself. (Who cares if they’re geared toward young girls? I’m embracing my childhood here! :D:p)

Talk about an adventerous and Pro-Catholic mystery! Josefina is the only Catholic of the American Girls, and the faith is portrayed beautifully. My daughter and I will be reading this one together.

Brave New World

Has anyone read this one? I just started it.
Yes, I read the book many years ago in high or junior high school. From what I recall, it was an interesting depiction of a dystopic future where people are bred from test tubes (as marriage and sex are outlawed) and are kept docile with a drug called Soma. A few characters begin to “wake up” and rebel against the oppressive government. I’d have to read it again sometime in order to refresh my memory of this classic by Aldous Huxley.

Working my way through the ‘Wheel of Time’ just hit the 4th book ‘Shadow Rising.’

I am also reading the Negima Manga and will soon be ordering ‘Triumph of the Moon’ for my ADF D.P.

So is Mary Eberstadt an atheist?

GilChrist77- Wonderful that the Dominican Nuns recommended books for you to read.

May God bless you all.

I recently read a book titled Exit Here by Jason Myers. It wasn’t the cleanest or most moral book out there, but it was quite an interesting read (for young adults, particularly.

Mary Eberstadt, author of The Loser Letters, is a Catholic, a very thoughtful Catholic.

I am currently re-reading* Love and Louis XVI* by Antonia Fraser, and Part II of the Baltimore Catechism.
