What book would you give a Muslim to read about Christianity?

]This new thread is inspired by an earlier thread with regard to protestants and catholics. Bit more of a challenge guys, but what book would you give a muslim friend wanting to learn more about Christianity? Suggestions please. :confused:
 
I would give the Muslim a book on Sufism, preferably Rumi- or Hafiz-related.

When you compare Christianity to Islam, you’re comparing apples and oranges.

Islam is comparable to Judaism.
Sufism is comparable to Christianity.
 
To be honest, the book of John. Yeah, i know, christian forum, for book suggestion someone had to say “the Bible” so they sound nice and christian, but i’m serious.
It’s my understanding that muslims recognize Jesus as a prophet, but not God. Read through the book of John and there is honestly no denying that Jesus says he is God. If this is so, then we have a problem

The Case for Christ, by Lee Strobel.

Good basic apologetics. You have to use something that doesn’t deviate from the basic question of “Who was Jesus?”
This single subject is the one key, because everything else depends on it. If you can get someone to start thinking that it is logical to believe that Jesus was God, you’ve leaped one of the biggest hurdles.
And, yes, get them to read the New Testament.
 
Thank you for all your suggestions. I have now ordered a book on Rumi, The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel and a bible! With regard to my friend on my part I have agreed to learn more about Islam.

Not the Bible, please. I’ve debated with Muslims and they can use the Bible against you. John’s Gospel they refute by saying that John 1:1 is originally merely an introduction to the Gospel, and not part of it at all (heard this from a Muslim show a few years back). I would rather suggest to get books that explain the Bible very well, instead of just the Bible, especially if you are not that good in Apologetics.
 
They know a lot of apologetics, we have to know for answer them.

I would invite them to visit the website of Peter Kreeft (www.peterkreeft.com), especially if they like listening to good, solid, FREE apologetics on audio - plus, he is very funny! There is also plenty of good, simple article to read there as well. Next to Catholic Answers, it has become one of my top favorites.

But if they prefer a simple, easy to read book, I suggest C.S.Lewis’ “Mere Christianity” (although not specifically Catholic, per se, it is very fair, even complimentary, to the Catholc faith).

For more of a fuller, Catholic, prespective on explaining Christianity, “Handbook of Christian Apologetics” by Peter Kreeft and Ron Tacelli is also a great one. If that’s a little too long, or a little to “philosophical”, I would give them Catholic Answer’s short, but sweet, “Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth” - which is also available FREE on this website:

I think every Catholic should have a stack of these to share with anyone who seems to be open to the truth. Amidst this world of insanity and spiritual dehydration, it is a nice, cold, glass of water!

Also, Josh McDowell’s “Evidence that Demands a Verdict” has plenty of good, solid research, which he complied while he was still a non-believer, trying to DISPROVE Christianity (as many others have)! Just be forewarned, SO FAR, as far as I know, (pray for him) Josh has not yet come to accept the fullness of the Catholic faith, and there are some inaccuracies in his “commentary” on the information in his book that convinced him to become an evangelical Protestant Christian. Maybe one day soon will hear about him reaching the next level of apologetics, and coming “home” to the Church Christ established for him, as well as the rest of us. Please pray for great Protestant defenders of the faith, like Josh, Lee Strobel, James White, etc… We could really use their type of zeal, wisdom and love for Christ in the Church!

Umm I got threatened with jihad by a muslim guy I used to got to highschool with.

I had not seen this guy for ages, and we never realy talked before. And then out of the blue, many years later we started talking outside a newsagency. He was a new convert.

Before you knew it he was coming over my place and I was swapping books with him. He wrote of the Bible saying that the Christians and Jews had changed everything to suit them.

Another time, we were discussing the Bible, and then I thought I would also try and ask questions about the Koran. He got aggressive and started talking about how Muslims kill people who blaspheme the Koran. :eek:

Another :whacky: day he came and we were preparing my brother’s engagement party. I asked him to stay but after seeing the pig on the spit he got upset. I asked him not to talk about religion if he wished to remain friends. But he insisted on talking ant then i said something, I can’t remember what, but he got all agressive and said, “You know it is no wonder why muslims kill Christians, since they have no regard for Islam.” I brought up the fact that pork was not illegal in Old times because of religious reasons, but because of health reasons…pork is prone to diseases. That was the last I heard of him.

But I do record waking up in the morning and finding my car tyres punctured a few times. Another time I found 2 nails (6cm long) lodged on the back tyres waiting for me to reverse over them. 😦

I wonder if I should have reported him???
 
Yes, they are hate crimes. You can’t be sure it was him, but at least there is the beginning of a paperwork trail.
