What brings non-Catholics to CAF?

I came here full-time February 2011, because the end of 2010 seemed to be one of the most difficult times in my life with a couple of protestant relatives, and aquaintences. I was just tired of being hurt, grilled, and laughed at! I figured it was time to get more educated, I needed to learn how to talk with them…

I am also here because, outside of my husband and children, I really don’t hang out with any practicing Catholics. Now I’m here with Catholics everyday:-) and to be quite honest, each day I share with my family what I have learned here, and it has helped me in communicating more effectively with those relatives of mine:-) …(sometimes when I hang up the phone from talking with them… I am like “thank you Lord, You did good”)

Thanks to this site, I have also been educated about other denominations. Before coming here I did not know what other denoms believed in or taught. Also, in the thirteen years I have been a practicing Catholic, I have never heard a priest say, or teach anything negative about another religion…that’s the truth:-) I’m proud to be a Catholic!!

Thank you CAF
I truly believe those of us who seek enlightenment can either find it here, or at least be pointed in the right direction. Love your post Teresa! This site has been the MOST helpful tool I have ever heard of regarding Catholic education. I spend more time here than on Facebook. That’s a FACT. 🙂

I came here to have endless debates on the Filioque. 😉

In truth, I’m here because I find learning about other Christian groups to be quite fascinating. I have learned much since I first started posting here.

On this thread note, I was to ask Non-catholics hiding behind a Religion label of Catholic under their name to remove it or change it to their actual religion. Sometimes, I see “Catholics” write these very contradicting statements of their own faith. I feel it cannot even be a lapsed catholic.

Forgive me for simply copying and pasting this, but it is exactly why I’m here too!

Kind regards, your posts have been helpful for me in understanding Orthodoxy a bit more.

Lincs.

Well, I was Catholic when I came here, so the question is a little bit funny as worded. But I stay here because it’s not helpful to just live in an echo chamber where you can be with like-minded people. How on earth can you ever expect to learn anything if you are never challenged or otherwise exposed to different views? Also, there are so many nice and thoughtful people here…it would be silly to pretend as though this place is worthless just because it isn’t Orthodox. Besides, I can just avoid the Filioque and Pope threads and get involved in what really brings people to Christ: Endless, mindless, senseless debates about Christology! 👍

I hate to bring a downote to this thread, but…
there are a few (not too many) Protestants who come here to argue, critcise, and proseletyze. Some just want to “set us straight”.
I love seeing those ones get converted. 🙂

I was searching something on Google a long time ago about Islam & muslims.

There were several threads on my topic of interest and they were all posted here… on CAF…!!!

So, I joined up and haven’t left. 😃

I have studied teachings of the Catholic religion, and early church history, I have also spent time in study wihh a priest who was apart of the orthodox church in america, After all my study, I became a christian (presbyterian church in america) 😃

I’m just here to talk and have a nice time. 🙂

I was born and raised a Catholic. Catholic grade school and high school. Despite leaving the church in my late teens for Atheism I’ve spent alot of my spare time in my life seeking answers to why people think and believe and behave the ways that they do. Coming here is part of my search. Figured a place entitled Catholic Answers would be a great place to find answers on Catholicism. 🙂

Thank you for the kind words:-)

Like you, I am on here more then Facebook too…lol…In fact, I have been on here at times for six hours! You get into a thread that is so educational or heated and you just can’t stop reading…

glad my children are grown and I’m a housewife:-)

I have seen Protestants, Jews, Buddhists, Agnostics, and Atheists here (I have yet to see Islam represented) and am curious as to what brought you to CAF? I’m here to learn about my Catholic faith, and would love to hear why others are here.
I saw somebody asking questions about my religion and thought I’d lend a hand.

I was raised Baptist, and for a while we stopped going to church, during that time at school in World History class we started talking about Rome and such and then starting talking about religion. Anyway, a few months later I started to research more about Catholicism, and then I came on here to learn even more. Now, I can’t wait until I’m older and out of my parents’ house so I can attend Mass and probably become Catholic someday! I credit this website with shedding the light on Protestantism! I love researching and learning, and this forum is just so helpful!

Good search engine placement. When searching Christian topics catholic.com kept coming up. I didn’t know a lot about the Catholic church, but have had great respect for its philosophical and theological tradition. I thought I’d learn more. I was especially interested in Catholicism since Mainline Protestantism seems doomed - nothing like imminent death to spur you on.
No doubt I am here because the Catholic church attracts me more than it repels me.

And I love the sound of my own voice.
Ah, and this is certainly true, especially the second part!

I’m a former Catholic, and I still like reading posts about Catholic issues, especially the Vocations section and the Ask The Apologist posts. I used to post, but now I just lurk. Except today 🙂

Welcome home! 👍

I see that in some threads and posts. I notice none of them have come to this thread and actually said as much. In MY opinion, there are some who seem openly hostile. I would especially like to know why THOSE members are here.
I am either blind or I have not noticed any of those you mention. The only people I have experienced who seem to like to ‘play’ with us Catholics are atheists.
I would hope that what brings non-Catholics to CAF - (aside from the Holy Spirit:D) would be a real desire to get to know what those Catholic people are about …from the horses mouth so to speak. After all in America recently Catholics are again on the radar screen politically. As for my country of birth- England I am delighted to come across more and more English Catholics and I hope it is a sign that the English are starting to take their Christian heritage seriously again.
