This doesn’t help, perhaps some things should be left un-said when personal feelings are involved.I personally could not be a part of the disunion of the schism.

I’m certainly no authority but it is my understanding that the Orthodox don’t think the schism could be avoided and that they are the true church.Well, then I guess I was wrong. I read too much into your “thinking Catholic.” You obviously don’t feel you are missing anything by attending the Russian Orthodox church. I personally could not be a part of the disunion of the schism.
A priest explained it once similar to that. He stated that it is ONE coin with two sides.I’m certainly no authority but it is my understanding that the Orthodox don’t think the schism could be avoided and that they are the true church.
Two sides of the same coin?
Hello David. I am half Scottish myself. The other half is Irish. Glad to have ya here and hope you get your answers to your questions!I’m here because I need answers!
This is a belief, not a feeling. Someone should state that the two churches are not equal, but they can decide for themselves which is true. This doesn’t help, perhaps some things should be left un-said when personal feelings are involved.![]()
Actually the Ruthenians are a part of the Catholic church a Sui Genis church.Well, then I guess I was wrong. Two separate coins now. The question is, how much value did one or the other lose in going its separate way? We would hope the same Holy Spirit would guide both into the fullness of truth, but over the thousand years of their separation, numerous doctrinal differences have arisen. Orthodox do not believe in the Papacy; all their bishops are equal, and no single person leads them. Orthodox do not believe in original sin. They do not believe in the immaculate conception. And there are numerous other differences in belief. Clearly, one of them is not being led into all truth. I have to believe that Christ never intended to establish two churches, especially two with such differences. I wish it were just a family squabble, and the two will join back together. I just can’t see the Roman Catholic Church ever recognizing the Orthodox Church as the true church, not ever. It would have to be the other way around.I’m certainly no authority but it is my understanding that the Orthodox don’t think the schism could be avoided and that they are the true church.
Two sides of the same coin?
My answer wad directed to your statement that you were attending the Russian Orthodox church. Yes, I know the Ruthenian church is Catholic.Actually the Ruthenians are a part of the Catholic church a Sui Genis church.
You don’t need to be in the latin rite to be Catholic at all.
…After that I became Russian Orthodox, but I still think Catholic…
I was raised Southern Baptist and always felt something was missing. Glad you found your way to Catholic.com and the forum!I’ll try to keep this short. The church of my youth, as a denomination, has problems due to it’s autonomous nature. My search for a new direction has been leaning toward the Catholic church. In an attempt to learn more and get answers to specific questions, I’ve gotten here via google.
I was Catholic when I originally signed up for these forums but have since de-converted to Unitarian Universalism.I am wondering what brings non Catholics to a website about Catholicism? This question is basically for non Catholics. Are you here to convert us Catholics? Are you here to find out more about the Catholic Church? Are you here to simply talk theology with other Christians?
What is your reasons for stopping by? I am very interested in knowing people’s reasons for coming here.
Everyone PLEASE be respectful of one another!![]()
Luke 1:39-45I am interested in the catholic faith but have learnt in my visit that I disagree with some major doctrines so will be joining an anglo catholic church which fits in better with my base beliefs regarding conception, women priests, abortion etc.
I was preparing to marry a Catholic woman. Afterwards it was one of the few religious forums which was compatible with my cell phone. After a few years of mobile browser updates and new cellular broadcasting technology that is probably no longer true but since I have quit debating theology there is really no need to search out the other sites and see if they now work on my phone.I am wondering what brings non Catholics to a website about Catholicism? Luke 1:39-45
And Mary rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of Juda. And she entered into the house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth. And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord.
The Catholic Church does not or will not bend to the whims of society.I am interested in the catholic faith but have learnt in my visit that I disagree with some major doctrines so will be joining an anglo catholic church which fits in better with my base beliefs regarding conception, women priests, abortion etc.
