What can and cannot Satan do?

There is a little book that might answer some questions. It’s called “101 Things the Devil Can’t Do” and it’s written by Maisie Sparks. The Demon can’t doubt the reality of God, Satan can’t get God’s glory, he can’t show you who he really is, he can’t be blessed, he can’t stand up to the kingdom of God, etc. It’s a neat little book. There is another book by the same author. It’s called “101 Things God Can’t Do” and is a great little book that gives a bit more understanding of God.
One important thing that Satan can’t do is that he can’t lead you down the wrong path. You make the decision to do the right thing and you stick by your decision. If you are strong, nothing he does can lead you astray.

I would have to disagree with that one.

If and only if, you were holy and perfect, could it be said that nothing Satan could do could mislead you.

It is ONLY by forgiveness you survive at all and thus Satan cannot tolerate forgiveness. If you keep yourself in a forgiving environment, then Satan could not do anything that would harm you to any extent, even though you might be temporarily misled.

Basically what Satan cannot do is allow the principles of Jesus to exist between adjacent people.

This means that;
  1. they cannot be allowed to actually love (arrangeable medically),
  2. they cannot be allowed to forgive (arrangeable by the appearance of wrong doing),
  3. they cannot be allowed to not judge (arrangeable through discomfort and entrapment),
  4. they cannot be allowed to love Truth (arrangeable through fear of judgment),
  5. and they cannot be allowed to know Truth (arrangeable through doubt, indecision, and TMI).
It is a very old formula, easily defeated these days. I am still a little puzzled as to why the CC allows for it to still reign. :confused:

I’m sorry that you disagree with me but I still feel that we can be strong enough to resist Satan. We will be tempted but we don’t have to give in to the temptation. We need the Lord to help us and He will. I believe the original question was asked by a young person. He simply wants to have an answer to his question. He can resist the Devil but he must rely on the Lord and His teachings to do that. Just as we all must do.
 
Don’t underestimate 14 yrolds. Jesus was a 14 yrold once. 😃
 
God can instill in the Soul of a Human Graces (Repentance, Reconcilliation etc.etc). God changes people from the inside out. The devil attacks from the outside in. However all actions of Grace are Supernatural because they are created. Only God can create.

   Since the Fall of  Man  the devil  gained influence over what God created and marred its original purpose  making things hostile to Man and in the hands of evil spirits ready to perpetrate inequity.   The devil can only manipulate matter in an unnatural way.
St Paul writes “The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 1that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. (Romans 8:19-22)”

So in a real sense we are supposed to claim back the Earth for God and through Jesus Christ we are promised Victory.
 
More or less, Satan can only really spread his influence through people, if I recall correctly. Though, there is debate about exorcisms and the like, Satan is an influencer and seducer. Promises of glory and whatnot, while his agenda is to take one from God. I’d be inclined to say that Satan’s biggest power with what he can do is influence people with things that appeal to them.

I don’t understand what you are saying here. Satan cannot or can do this to adjacent people?

Who allows what to reign?
 
the devil can tempt us, but he can’t control our free will - except in the case of possession. In the end, God is stronger than the devil 🙂
 
Even in the case of possession Satan can’t take your free will. We will always have free will even in all of enternity. If we are in Heaven we will no longer want to sin and in Hell we no longer want to repent. Possession is possession of the body.
Satan traps people in networks of lies, big and small. Like the current norms of morality in society prevalent today where liberty is defined as the pursuit of desires no matter how far these desires are from the Law of God. Some become so hardened in sin they no longer feel any guilt nor remorse. This is spiritual death and Satan's deciet or lies are the seal behind the scenes in of all this. It is a twisted truth that Satan puts forth and always he desires something that belongs wholely to God. This is what he wants from people. He wants what is God's and God's alone. He want us to worship him instead of God.

Precisely. For example, I’m in a terrible situation in my life regarding my brother and his ex-wife, who decided to start rumors and trash-talking me and insulting me every way she can. She’s pursuaded a couple friends, and even people who don’t know me that she’s right, when I honestly don’t know why she’s doing it.

My first reaction was extreme anger towards her, but every time I get mad, I keep in mind that this is the kind of thing that pulls us down. It’s hard sometimes, but this is just one of the ways Satan works. He can influence people so that one thing might get to you, or many things can lead to your despair or fall into the wrong path. The best way to combat him is sometimes difficult, but worth it. Just keep in mind the path He wants us to follow, and to be with people who can help you, rather than hurt you. At the least, this stunts his influence against us.
 
Lucifer means “light bearer”. When Lucifer fell from Heaven, he retained his knowledge. He’s supposed to be a light bearer but he has reversed his mission 180 degrees. This is why so much confusion reigns.

Satan does not have free reign in this world. Satan wants to get as many souls into Hell as possible. A tried and true formula for going to Hell is to sin mortally and be unrepentant for it. Shortly after we commit a mortal sin we are still usually unrepentant (there are exceptions) for it since we are in the same mindset since so little time has elapsed. If Satan had free reign, why would he not kill you in that instant?

God is still in general control and, from i understand, God lets Satan do certain things and other things He does not let Satan do. God tests us in this life. If there weren’t a struggle, how could there be a victory?
 
Yes, all so true. People sometimes die from the stress of diabolical attack especially during an exorcism where their body is a real war zone. This is why many prayers are needed for Deliverance of a person from his grip and influence. Some holy people, those who pray, are called upon God to be “victim souls.” They are asked by God directly to suffer possession. I don’t know much about “victim souls”: but one should inform themselves about this phenomena which is strictly Catholic.

Why would Jesus Christ ask someone to suffer possession, if he casts our demons in the Gospel?  All suffering can be said to be for the Glory of God. Firstly.so that the individual would be raised to a greater sanctity in Heaven. Secondly, for the salvation of other souls, vocations,  souls in purgatory,families,etc....Suffering whether through possession, oppression, infestations, temptations conforms us to Christ, who said "take up your Cross daily, deny yourself, and follow me."
       
  Jesus Christ did not perform miracles just to relieve our ills.He used these "signs" and wonders" to prove to us His Divinity, that His Kingdom had arrived  and to believe in Him as our Saviour. Although some people may be personally guilty of sin that  brought on possession, many are victims, innocent of blame. St.Paul says "I make up in my body what is lacking to the suffering of Christ." And in another place, "I begged the Lord
to take this angel of Satan from me, but the Lord said “My grace is sufficient for thee.”
St. Paul probably was the first victim soul and he bore the Stigmata which is often signifies this person is a victim soul.
However Satan has his own counterfeit victim souls. God grants his bishops the Grace to know the difference though the Holy Spirit. The Church Jesus founded in Jerusalem is armed with a remedy (Sacraments, sacramentals, prayers, catechism etc..) for every evil that Satan throws at us through the Action of the Holy Spirit.
