I recently found out that an old, dear friend of mine died suddenly at the age of 49. He collapsed and never regained consciousness. There was no time for last rites or anything. He was a cradle Catholic but a lifelong homosexual. At the time of his death, he was living with a man. Would having a Mass said for him and walking through a Door of Mercy on his behalf, during this Jubilee Year of Mercy, be of any benefit to his soul or is he truly lost? I would do anything to help his soul if I just knew what to do.

Yes, having a Mass offered for your friend and seeking to gain a plenary indulgence at your diocese’s jubilee year door of mercy are both fine ideas for assisting your friend in the repose of his soul. Please see the link below for more information.
