What can I do for the prevention of abortion

It’s like to go back to one statment here that needs clarification. From someone who has been very involved in Respect Life spirituality and ministry, those who engage in abortion do not kill for sex. Sex is simply the means by which women get pregnant.

My experience with abortion goes deeper than sex.
  1. First we have to understand that many people engage in sexual activity, not just single people.
  2. We are all sinners and as such we are often afraid of natural conseuqences of our behaviors. Fear is the number one cause of abortion. Many people see parenting as in insurmountable challenge. It overwhelmes them.
  3. Other people are lied to. They are told that this is not a child, but a piece of tissue. No one gives them a picture of a fetus in the womb so that they can see that a fetus is just a child in its early stages of development. In my experience, when mothers and fathers see the pictures of their babies through sonagrams, they no longer want an abortion. They see their baby and they want that baby. The lies that society tells people have to be challenged and exposed for what they are.
  4. Many poor people seek an abortion because they have no where to turn. At our pregnancy centers we provide men and women with classes on parenting, back to work classes and other forms of education. We pay them to come to classes. We also provide them with medical care and free childcare after they have their babies. Often we provide with housing.
  5. Then there is age. There are cases where younger people are often preasured by their parents into abortion. Sometimes these young people speak up against abortion. More often than not, they give in to their parents out of fear.
There are too many issues that lead to abortion. Would that it be so simple that we can say the cause is this and we can take it away. Therefore, the best response that we can offer is to the defense of life, while we also work on the causes.

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

Apparently your god isn’t interested. 🤷 Or different tactics are required.
Guess that reiki isn’t working so much for you anymore, huh Cheese? So much for being a model Catholic and still engaging in that occult stuff…

If you’re male and single, you may want to pray about the Franciscan Brothers of LIfe.

I think Diane and Possenti have misconceptions about why an abortion occurs and that the only result is the murder of a baby. I pray that you please log on to the Silent No More Awareness website, watch the video “I had an abortion because…” and read some testimonies. silentnomoreawareness.org/

Those involved in the killing of a child (women and men alike, well meaning parents of teenage girls …) pay dearly for it, for the rest of their days. Yes they have killed but by God’s grace, they have the opportunity to chose repentance, to amend their lives and to be witnesses to life. I’m writing this in memory of Alicia and Gabriel, my children lost to abortion. Our Lord Jesus Christ said to the woman caught in adultery: “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more”.

Possenti, I’m praying for your adoption news.
I watched the link you posted and I agree with the message. And that message is repeated often and no matter what one may think the ACT is one of killing a baby and these women agree with that premise. At fist it was a matter of convenience but once they faced the loss of their baby they came to know what they had done was an act of extinguishing a young life in their wombs. They understood they had destroyed a life and they now hope and pray that God will forgive them which I do believe He will. He will forgive because they were contrite and knew that what they did was wrong but now are regretful of the sin of abortion.

What I am saying is that one who would kill without contrition and the intent of never committing that sin again will be forgiven. But those who have repeated abortions will continue in a sinful life and their reasoning is beyond my understanding. I can only hope they will come to understand the evil of their act.

Possenti, may God bless you and the sisters who linked you with this mother to be.

Thank you Diane for taking a look at the website.
I as many others have engaged in sinful relations and had an abortion because my boyfriend said so, not because I wanted to. I knew in my heart it was murder and hoped he will change his mind and support us but he didn’t. I don’t deny my own responsibility, I didn’t stand up for my child. I won’t go into details but I was feeling trapped in an abusive relationship years later and had another abortion. This two decisions I will regret for the rest of my life.

Women who have repeated abortions do repent. It does happen, even among nurses and doctors. Yes it’s hard not to condemn people when they commit so many obvious and shocking sins but still it’s not our place to judge. It is our place however, to love and to pray for repentance. Paul persecuted Christ’s followers and still he was chosen to be an Apostle. We never know how God can use a repentant sinner for the good. Peace&Prayers.

Maybe my premise needs a bit more clarification.

I was a sidewalk counselor for a few years, so I am speaking from what I have seen.
  1. I understand that not all abortions are for the same reasons, and that some people have them because they are teenage mothers whose parents threaten to throw them out of their house, or because of any number of reasons.
  2. I understand the consequences of abortion, and that it deeply wounds the people involved, whether they understand their hurt/emptiness or not. I have a few friends who have committed abortions and are dealing with it. It’s something from which they will never recover.
  3. I have seen a great many people go in to have abortions because they just flat out don’t want kids or they don’t want another kid. The reasoning behind what those people are doing is to have the pleasure of sex without having the consequence of a child. They have a disordered understanding of God’s meaning of sex. They are killing in order to continue to have sex without having to take the responsibility of raising that child. They may not realize that it will cause tremendous damage scars soon after or years down the road. I have seen people so disgustingly far from God that they celebrated in the parking lot before and after they had their abortions. They gave high-fives and laughed and cheered. It was like if Satan threw a ticker-tape parade or something.
The hurt from the abortion is not something that anyone plans. They do not understand it when they do it, or they do it with full understanding, but believe they have to do it so their boyfriend doesn’t dump them. It is the same separation of the unitive and procreative as contraception, except a life has been created and they are destroying that life.
About point 2, it is possible to recover. A counselor on a Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat once said “it’s not about forgetting, it’s about remembering with less pain.”

I’m surprised and saddened about the things you mention in point 3. I know many post-abortive women and men, I have never heard anyone speaking of “pleasure of sex” as a reason to abort. It’s always about being trapped in a situation, not having enough money, out of fear or people being directly or indirectly coerced into it. And these people might have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol too. I’m praying that sooner or later they will come to realize what they have done to their child and to their own soul and come to Christ. There is hope, love and life in Christ Jesus, especially for the worst of all sinners. We should never forget that. Peace&Prayers

***There are several Things one Can and SHOULD DO to lessen Abortion.

Always VOTE PRO-LIFE! ALWAYS!

Speak in defense of LIFE whenever the opportunity arrises. Like a lamp on a hillside, let you’re opinion be known.

Pray the Rosary daily!***

I strongly agree with this one. We still pray even though 40 Days For Life Campaigns are over and God is still saving babies. We will never give up and no one else should either.
Pray,pray,pray please!!! God Bless always…

I should have edited my response to you and instead of saying, “What I am saying is that one who would kill without contrition and the intent of never committing that sin again will be forgiven” should have said, ‘with contrition’. Forgive me.

I know only to well how easy it is to commit a wrongful act as a teen. I can not deny having to go to confession more often than a young teen should be in need to. I also know that when peers are influencing you that is enticing enough but when adults who are medical practitioners tell a young girl that she is better off getting rid of the ‘embryo’ in her womb they are the real sinners and yes, they are murderers.

I look back and think of two of my girlfriends and realize they did have abortions. We can tell can’t we? I would never condemn them for that is only God’s right. What I do feel though is deep resentment against those who guided them to commit such an act. One in fact later after being married would be unable to conceive a child with her husband. The damage done to her by that abortion I have to suppose denied her the gift of life that she and her husband would have cherished.

Every time I attend a pro-life meeting or stand on a line with a sign my first thought always seems to revert back to my young teen girlfriend who now suffers because of her mistake but more-so by those who guided her, not with care, but with their indifferent greed and willingness to destroy life. They are the most evil of sinners in my opinion and I believe that will be told to them by their creator when they have to answer for their deeds.

We all have the opportunity to repent even after numerous acts of a sinful nature. God knows that each of us needs to ask for His forgiveness many times in our lifetimes. He is there to grant that forgiveness if we only ask it of Him. You and I seem to be on the same wave length hon so please do not take my angst to mean it was meant to apply to only one person individually. OK?

I wear size 11 1/2 in shoes. If you care to walk a mile in them, I’ll gladly ship a pair to you.

Unfortunately I’m not, but I’m praying my hardest and to date i have convinced two people to be pro life, just by explaining ot them the methods used in an abortion… thank you anyway! 🙂

I would first and foremost encourage you to prayer to end abortion. Secondly, I would look to see if there are any youth pro-life groups in your area. I have found a few online and if these ones are not in your area, you still may want to contact them for ideas or just to see if they know of a group closer to you. They are Impact73.org, Wisconsin Right to Life (I’m not sure if they have any info on their website, but they do have a youth organization.) and abort73.com.

Also, starting March 25, 2010 The Great Prayer Project - End Abortion will begin. The project is focused on having one continuous year of prayer to end abortion. (NOTE: I am the webmaster for this project.)
