I hope you can find the time to offer some advice on a family matter.
My father a lapsed Catholic, died very suddenly after a cerebral aneurysm. His death was absolutely unexpected and totally traumatic to us. Immediately before his death in a hospital ward, a local priest asked if he could pray the Last Rites which we refused. Our refusal had nothing to do with anti -Catholic sentiment but our inability to accept that our Dad was dying.
Since my Dad’s death I have been drawn to the Catholic church and hope to be accepted in Easter 2009. I am now very much aware of the enormity of our decision to refuse the Last Rites. I have started to light a candle and praying to Our Lady for his soul (and mine) each time I visit the church but is there anything else I could or should be doing?
