Hello. I have a complicated situation and am trying to be faithful to the church and my faith.
Thank you!
- I am currently pregant with my third child. My husband and I are very excited about this. When we first got married, through NFP we found out that I have PCOS- a condition that makes it so I do not ovulate. Because of the anovulation, I do not have the hormone shift that is neccisary for NFP. In the 5 and 1/2 years we have been married have have ovulated only a handful of times. I took medication to get pregnant with my first two children. This one was a total surprise and a gift as I had no period prior to getting pregnant.
- I delivered my first baby at 32wks because I became badly pre eclamptic with cerebral edema. Olivia had stopped gorwing inside me at 28wks and had begun to eat away at her self. She weighed 2lbs 12 ozs. After her delivery we found out that I have a condition that causes my blood to over clot called factor II and a second condition called protien S difficency. I was told at that time that if I get pregnant again it could be very dangerous but that I would have to take heparin to keep from clotting again.
- We got pregnant with our second child and shortly into the pregancy we learned that I am allergic to heparin and develop hives. I am able to take lovenox, which is another form of anticoagulant. Madelynn was also born prematurely as I became very sick again with pre eclampsia and cerebral edema. The doctors were concerned that I was going to have a seizure or a stroke and we delivered at 34 wks.
- My husband and I decided that we would continue to be open to life, but we would not take anything to cause pregnancy since pregnancy is so dangerous for me and scarey also for the babies. If God had another child for us it needed to come with out any meds. In september we found out we are pregnant with our third baby!
- I am currently taking shots every day to keep me from clotting, but yesterday we had a scare that I had a blood clot in my lung. The doctor said the treatment for this would be IV heparin, I quickly reminded him that I am allergic to heparin. This further complicated a very scary situation. Not only am I at risk for blood clots throughout my body, but I am highly at risk to get pre eclamptic again. Thankfully, I do not have a clot, but the risk remains.
- There is no question about this pregancy! I love the child and life that is within me and I would never terminate. I see the best high risk OB specialist in the state. It is obviously the recommendation by physicians that I don’t get pregnant any more however.
- My question is many, but boils down to… What do I do? I cant do NFP because of the hormone problem. We tried a fertility monitor, but found the same problem. Obstaining sounds like the only option, however that doesn’t fullfill our sacrament. I will not do any pills or IUD because of the possiblity of an abortifacient. My doctor recommends a tubal or vasectomy. If they were to “fail” we would be absolutely open to the life conceived. My doctor asked the question cant we be open to chossing and protecting life: in this case that is my own life? In the mean time always being open to adoption and the life that presents itself.
Thank you!
