I think I overate compared with most of you. What do you all think of this?

Breakfast: Can of mountain dew and a handful of m&m’s

Lunch: 4 pancakes, an orange, and a can of root beer

Dinner: 3/4 of a serving of macaroni and cheese and a glass of juice.

Opinions would be appreciated. Thanks:)

Andy
Get thee to a nutritionist!! Yikes!!

Yes, the special K bar could be considered a small meal.

Please don’t be scrupulous. Consult your priest if you have difficulty discerning what the requirements for fasting are so you will be better prepared in the future and not second guessing yourself.
I wasn’t sure, that’s all. My intentions were to just eat one meal all day, then I ate that bar outta habit and didn’t think about it at all. I figured I’d be all right.

My opinion? Learn the heart of the fasting laws AND please rethink your diets, especially the soft drinks and sugary stuff.

Mountain Dew, Root Beer, Colas, pastries and candy are loaded with high fructose corn syrup which many nutritionists have suggested might be the cause of obesity, hypoglycemia and diabetes. They can send your whole mood and metabolism on a wild ride. Pop Tarts have little nutrition: white flour, sugar, corn syrup, and highly overprocessed fruit. Danger! Will Robinson!

Stick to eggs, milk, peanut butter and nuts, cheeses, fish, beans, good fats, whole grains, vegies and fresh fruits, and on non-Lenten days: meats. Drink simple water for fluids whenever possible. Processed foods and drinks offer no nutrition and should be consumed sparingly, especially to be avoided when fasting IF POSSIBLE. God still wants us to nurture our bodies, not assault them.

I know…Catholics don’t spell out the fasting laws out to this degree but we are expected to be good to the body God gave us and avoid self-destruction. We are not to worship health as some do, but we are to protect our health whenever possible.

Just being a gentle, nagging auntie…

If we’re going to offer advice please get the advice correct.
Those items do not cause Type 1 Diabetes, only perhaps may play a role in obesity which may play a role in developing Type 2 Diabetes. There is a difference. A BIG difference. If you’re going to hand out medical and nutritional advice please get it correct. I’m tired of people telling me that my small son, 7 years old, skinny as a rail, must have eaten too much junk food and that’s why he has Type 1 Diabetes. Arrgggg!

For myself I try to figure it pout this way.

I should consume about 1800 calories a day. (should 😉 ) so for my main meal I try to go for a third of that 600 calories. For the two small meals, I aim for them to add up to 500 calories.

I know it’s technical, but I feel less scrupulous this way.

It’s my understanding that drinks, including juices, milk, etc. may be consumed during the day. Fasting for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday is different than the fast before communion when the only liquids allowed are water and medicines.
I thought between meals only water was allowed.

I wasn’t fasting because of pregnancy but my non Catholic spouse was all into learning about how to “eat” on Good Friday. I hate to admit we went to the mall’s food court for lunch. I had Tacotime (dunno if you have it in the states, same thing as Taco Bell but better ) and had a bean burrito. There was a Fish and Chips place too and it was PACKED! Nice seeing Catholics respecting the no meat on friday, but I think we were all bad for being at the mall.

Hahah I laughed at the comment in here about having cheese in every meal - that sounds like me on a regular day!

Thanks for the correction. I apologize. As a Type 2 diabetic, even my attempts at a modified fast can go straight to my head and make me clumsy.
God bless you AND your son. Type 1 is a much tougher struggle all around; you don’t need critiques of your parenting due to misinformation on top of it all.

I have been eating really bad lately.

Fried chicken yesterday, a nice rare bloody steak … fried chicken today… sooo good though.

I didn’t eat at all yesterday. I got up around 1 AM this morning and had a bacon lettuce and tomato sandwhich;)
