Yes,you just keep thinking that, teach everyone your thoughts…
Show me. My guess is the best you can do is present an opinion based on an observation. We don’t need science for that.

Lets start with goodness and justice.

[sarcasm mode on/]Hang on. I think that Tony has stumbled upon something here. I think he’s realised that science doesn’t teach us about love, truth etc and that, wait for it, we may need something else to work those things out!

I wish he’d told us what it was in his first post, rather than leave us in the dark like this. C’mon, Tony. If you know then I think you have a responsibility, nay, a duty, to tell us what it is.[sarcasm mode off/].

Actually what you could have said, in a manner which is totally beyond you, is to say: ‘Hey guys. Being a Christian will help us know what stuff like love and truth are. Because those things aren’t covered by the scientific method’.

Way to go, Ton.

Welcome back, Brad! 🙂

You are forgetting this is a Philosophy forum. You are the one who has a bee in your bonnet about Christianity!

Now, what can science tell us about truth, etc… ? Any ideas?

Lets start with goodness and justice.
The Bible Teaches goodness and justice…
so does science.

Draw the Curtains let the sun shine in … talk to teaches of Science and they will teach you why a Rose has purfume , God does not chase after you with a Bottle…Why does the moon will circle the earth… a teacher will explain, science will show why we have floods and Droughts… witch doctors would perform human sacrifice to make it rain, and the people believed in that nonsense…
Science will perform justice by putting nut cases out of a job…that to me is justice well deserved …
Science does not give an observation based on opinion as fact …
Code:
Science give details based on fact. if you don't like the answer...
thats your opinion based on an Observation, not a fact.

But, none of this addresses the OP or what I asked you to show me.

There are non so blind as those that will not see…

Maybe over coffee and cake we could debate, because on a forum …
.it’s harder to explain your point…

The OP hints that science can teach us “nothing” about truth, goodness, freedom, beauty and love.

Nowhere does the OP:
  1. Explain what he means by that.
  2. Support his claim.
  3. Explain why any of us should care.
This thread is a waste of time.

I can only guess, but it seems to me the OP is stating science can’t provide answers in those areas. Not to take a jab at science, but to caution those who seek so many answers from science. Far too many people do not realize science is extremely limited and does nothing for the spiritual areas of a person’s life.

Science has taken on the form of a pagan religion in modern times.

I am simply asking a simple question! 🙂

I agree with you but some Christians seem hooked and hoodwinked!

False deduction!
You start the thread but don’t provide any actual content to the discussion, and you just jump in to pop off at people with one-liners. If you have something to say then say it already. Stop being obnoxious.

God is truth. God is beauty. God is love.

According to Romans 1:19, science can tell us about God.

Thus, science can tell us about truth, beauty, and love.

The main question is whether we are open to understand consciousness? Why consciousness is important? Because all of these qualities comes with a feeling and meaning, experienced withing consciousness. Assume that the answer to this question is yes. Then the only way to understand these qualities is through science unless you know other way around or want to keep these qualities inside black boxes.

Argumenta ad hominem…

Indeed:
20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
👍 St Paul was inspired by Jesus:
26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Just as Catholicism does nothing for the health of a persons body. The point being, there are many aspects to life.

What does science tell us about the origin of consciousness?

Modern medicine treats the whole person not only the symptoms. Disease often has its origin in a negative attitude to life whereas Catholicism is based on belief in God’s infinite love demonstrated in the life, death and teaching of Jesus. Depression is widespread in secular societies like Sweden which has one of the highest standards of living and one of the highest rates of suicide in the world.
