What can stop the feeling of darkness when you feel life is pointless?

I too have become disenchanted once I clicked on your name and began reading your other posts. At first I became angry as I felt you had been “playing” us. Now I feel sad. It is not a good way to get attention. I will not further contribute to this. I hope you find healing if that is truely what you need. Either way, you need some help. God Bless.
As I said before, this thread is not about religion. 😦

only the love of God can bring you from the darkness into the light. It may take some time, but God is with you always, even in the darkness. God works in his time not ours. God will bring people into your life that will help you come out of the darkness into the light.
May God Bless

Hi Zundrah,
I’m sorry you have gone through what you have. I can’t imagine how it must torture you everyday. Now it seems as if everything is coming to a head with the trial and all.
What has me hung up in your story is why the doctor said that medication would do more harm than good. That seems strange to me, given that there are so many antidepressants on the market these days, and many of them have very few side effects. It’s not like Prozac is the only one. There are options, there are combinations that a doctor can prescribe, also to lessen the side effects even more.
Are there medical reasons for the doctor not to prescribe antidepressants? Is your doctor a psychiatrist, or just a general practitioner? It just seems odd to me, given that most doctors these days are at the ready to hand out pills like candy to everyone–much more so in an extreme case like yours, in which I would think medication is probably necessary.

Prozac is what I was going to get but my doctor said that I shouldn’t because it was too early to go onto antidepressants. He said that I should get therapy instaed, but theraphy was too much because I had to talk about things that I didn’t want to remember all over again.

P.S. He was just a normal medic.

I knew this would happen.
Priest, mass, holy water - what in God’s name has that got to do with depression.
I can see that you think this is just a sick twisted joke.
I shouldn’t have made this thread - If I can delete it, can some one tell me how to?
Yes, I think you can pretty much assume, if you come to a Catholic site you are going to get Catholic Answers. Your question is just, though. What in God’s name do these things have to do with depression?

Well, the priest can forgive the sins that may have caused the depression.

The Mass will give life to your soul, which pushes out depression, and the holy water will remind you of what happened at your baptism, which is that you were set free from sin and death, and transferred into the glorieous kingdom of light.

Col 1:13-14
3 He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Religion and life are two different things.
No, they are not. God wants to transform all of us into His Life. The past, the present, and the future.

Rom 12:1-2
12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Once your mind is renewed, there will be no separation between your “life” and your “religion”.
This thread is about my past. You are going to give me a load of verbal hassle on this thread just because i do not follow your beliefs? This is quite abusive.
No, Zundrah, this is not abusive. You have come to a Catholic Forum where we specialize in giving Catholic Answers. If you don’t want them, then go to a Methodist forum instead.
As I said before, this thread is not about religion. 😦
You may not have intended for it to be, but you posted it in Catholic Living. This is the perfect place to post it, but you have to be aware that, when you pose a question like this under 'catholic living" that what you will get are answers about how Catholics live. We do not separate “life” from “religion” as you seem to do. Our lives are our “religion”. There are no aspects of our lives that God does not wish to fill and to heal, including history of child abuse.

Love is the only thing that can make you happy and make life feel worth living. It could be the love of God, the love of a person, the love of nature, whatever. The point is, love is the only thing which makes this life have any value.

There are souls who walk through hell
to try to pull other souls out of hell.
It’s not easy.
It’s not easy.
It’s not easy.

It’s not easy to walk through hell.
It’s not easy to deal with the souls in hell.
It’s not easy to argue with the souls in hell
It’s not easy to bear wounds wrought by the souls in hell
It’s not easy to bear the diseases and sufferings of hell.
It’s not easy.
It’s not easy.
It’s not easy.

It’s not easy to be screaming on the cross
GOD WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?
It’s not easy to ask why am I dying?
It’s even worse to ask why did I live?
It’s even worse to know that
I lived for nothing
I died for nothing
I suffered for nothing
for absolutely nothing.
It’s not easy.
It’s not easy.
It’s not easy.

In the end all the suffering ends, all the pain ends, and the beautiful light comes,
and the most beautiful gentle comforting voice of God wraps you in the light and says:
My daughter, my son, with you I am well pleased.
Because it wasn’t all for nothing…
you gave them what the Christ Himself was also sent to give them…
you gave them the greatest gift of all…
the opportunity to learn compassion.

Guanophore… I am at a loss now. I put up on a thread about my abuse in my childhood… and now this? Peaople attacking me for conversations on different topics? Calling me a liar about my past just because I don’t have faith in the Eucharist? The two are seperate things that I need resolve. Discusion on other threads should have stayed on other threads. I can still not believe the vicious treatment I got on this thread. Try reading the this thread from begining to end if you think you cannot understand where I am coming from.

Actually I would say Faith and Happiness are inextricably linked together, and you really should not try to separate the two. The world can never make you happy, only God can. And the way we experience God on Earth is essentially what Religion is. Obviously individual beliefs are not as important as the picture as a whole, but it does play a part.

Noone that I read called you a liar. I am another one you can add to the list of people to whom this has happened. And the more I learn about my faith, the farther I have gone in my prayer life, the better my life has become and the easier it has been to live with this.

One of the reasons that I feel Catholics (myself included, even when it gets me in trouble) have such a hard time separating “religion” and life is that for us it is not religion. I am not a Catholic follower. My Catholicism is not one descriptor among many about me. I AM Catholic. Despite being a relatively new convert, Catholic is who, what, and why I am. This has brought me more peace than anything I have ever felt in life. The knowledge that I can meet my Creator and my Saviour each time I attend the Mass or Adoration is incredible. It is like knowing that no matter what the person whom you love with your entire SOUL is always available.

The reason that people seem to be getting upset with you for your disbelief in Catholic teachings is not to call you a liar, it is simply because you have joined a group devoted to one thing and are attempting to use it for another. You would not join a Cancer survivors group to discuss Muscular Dystrophy.

That being said, I honestly feel that almost every single member of this forum would gladly help and support you should the opportunity arise. The request that some members have made is simply that you show us the respect of using our forum/s as intended, to receive Catholic Answers to specific questions or to life issues. Thus, when someone says that you could receive succor from the Eucharist and Confession, that is a Catholic answer that is truly and honestly accurate. Please remember this one quote “Psychiatry is confession without absolution”, i think it was Chesterton.

Talk to a priest, please. If you feel like you need meds, see a doctor, but please talk to a priest.

Therapy and medication would seem to be the best option. Sometimes, one needs the medication in order to help them handle the therapy. It’s hard to talk about those traumatizing things, I really don’t know what it is specifically you have gone through–nor do I need to know. What I can tell from what you are saying is that you have been through something terrible. Though you obviously need the therapy in order to heal, you also right now can’t handle the implications of that. Totally understandable. You can’t right now rehash your past, but you need to in order to heal the wounds. That is where I believe medication would be in your best interests. It would help you get through those sessions of psychotherapy.
At least, that is my opinion. I’m a critical care nurse, not a doctor–but I’m very used to talking with doctors all the time over the best course of treatment for a patient. I also think in a very practical manner. You need the therapy, Zundrah. You do, but it is too hard for you at this time. So you need a psychiatrist to help you through that with a double pronged approach of medication and therapy.
Of course, I will pray for you. Again, I’m very sorry you experienced what you have. I will pray that you will find healing.

I don’t know what to either say or think at the moment. I need to stay off of this thread because it is making me think irractically.

I have never got down infront of the tabernacle, but I will try to do it this sunday (or even tomorrows friday mass) and see if I can get some clearer thought on this…

Actually, what you put up was a request for help. People offered you help and support.

Others doubted your sincerity.

It is not your past that causes doubt, but your present. You have posted contradictory statements many times, on many threads.
Code:
The two are seperate things that I need resolve.
No, I think they are part and parcel of the same.

Matt 12:34
“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

You have shown your heart equally in all the threads. Your words have revealed your conflicted thoughts. Because of your lack of consistency, people doubt your sincerity.
Discusion on other threads should have stayed on other threads. I can still not believe the vicious treatment I got on this thread.
No one has been vicious to you here. You are being confronted with some of the “darkness” that lives in your own soul.
Try reading this thread from begining to end if you think you cannot understand where I am coming from.
I have read every post. I think your feelings are hurt because some people here objected to your behavior. All behavior has consequences. The consequence of yours is that people doubt your sincerity.

I don’t know what to either say or think at the moment. I need to stay off of this thread because it is making me think irractically.
It is not the thread that is doing it, Zundrah. I is the darkness you wrote about in the OP.

‘Vicious treatment’? Come off it. Don’t exaggerate. Read a daily newspaper, watch the tv news, as you don’t understand what vicious is. Little children being abused, pensioners beaten up for their savings, animals tortured - that’s vicious. Get a sense of proportion.

‘Discussion on other threads should have stayed on other threads’. Well, that’s debateable. You want us to understand you, don’t you? Naturally we take into account what you have said in other threads. If you have been sincere and truthful on other threads, this can only be to your advantage. Or are you saying you haven’t been sincere and truthful?

Besides,I don’t suppose many posters confine their reading to just the one forum. I’d imagine we all have our favourites, which we check regularly. It’s inevitable that we’re going to recognise a name and carry over what we’ve learnt onto another forum.

Quote where you have been called a liar, by the way?

As they say; “What goes around comes around.”
I put some rather heartless words on some threads to people, I did of course sin by doing that. When we sin we never get away with it. Peace does not come to those who do not spread peace.

I always believed that everthing that happens on Earth is the act and will of God, even if it is dark, evil, painful and forever destroying; it is from God. He delivers love, peace and mercy but he also delivers pain, sacrifice and nightmares. Everything is from God, good or bad it is from god.
What happens to me, I deserve.
What happened to me, I deserved
What will take place in the futre, I will deserve. Good or bad, it is from God.

No matter how negative, no matter how unforgiving, no matter how eternatly painful to the mind, body or soul, it is from God. He is just and true, his ways are not to be questioned. Even death was invented by God in the Garden of Eden. No one can escape death, it is Gods will.

As they say; “What goes around comes around.” …
…Peace does not come to those who do not spread peace.
This is the truth of Christ and of God. It is universal law in the cosmos that the energy we put out into the cosmos we eventually get back from the cosmos.
I always believed that everything that happens on Earth is the act and will of God, even if it is dark, evil, painful and forever destroying; it is from God. He delivers love, peace and mercy but he also delivers pain, sacrifice and nightmares. Everything is from God, good or bad it is from God.
This is neither the truth of Christ nor God. This is the typical pile of steaming b.s. that adults who want to play at being false gods go dumping onto innocent children in an attempt to secure their obedience to those adults as though those adults themselves were gods. Some adult with a false god complex must have dumped this onto you as an innocent child. I am so very sorry. You never deserved that, never, it was spiritual abuse .

God does not put people on this earth because they know how to love themselves and others. If we already knew how to love ourselves and others properly, we would be having tea with the angels!
God puts people on this earth to learn how to love themselves and others.
Christ gave the law. The law is “love one another.”

You crossed paths in this life with an individual who did not know how to love at all.
Most people do far better with the learning to love oneself and others commandment than that pitiful individual!
Your crossing paths with said individual gave that individual an opportunity to learn how to love, how to demonstrate respect, consideration, and compassion for another human being.
That individual was apparently not even willing to demonstrate the least bit of respect, consideration, and compassion for another human being.
Instead of getting off his lazy self indulgent rear and working to resolve, release, and heal his own issues, that individual simply re-created his own issues by re-enacting them, acting them out on an innocent human being. Such behavior is an absolute violation of God’s laws.

God does not cause suffering on this earth. God loves all of God’s children and does not wish suffering on anyone at any time for any reason whatsoever.
Suffering exists on this earth for one reason and one reason alone:
because the experience and observation of suffering gives human beings the opportunity to learn compassion.
Basically, human beings are like babies smacking themselves and others with rocks because they haven’t yet learned to bang the rocks together and build useful things for themselves and others.
Free will and creativity are gifts from God that human beings are here to learn to use appropriately for the joy and benefit of self and other. God gave human beings the power to create, you see, but used improperly, this power is also the power to destroy…(themselves, one another, the planet…)

You crossed paths with another human being and gave that human being the opportunity to learn compassion It is not your fault that human being refused to learn and practice compassion for another human being, it is not your fault.

You look at yourself and conclude that you must have deserved abuse, exploitation, and mistreatment.
It is not truth.
No one deserves abuse, exploitation, and mistreatment, no one. Even the most badly behaved of human beings does not deserve abuse, exploitation, and mistreatment, but deserves seriously imposed restraint, such that he is allowed to harm neither self nor others.

Know that you are not the hopeless child of your parents.
You are God’s creation and God’s own child.
You are the chosen one and the braveheart.
You are the one who crossed paths with this individual in life because you are the only one the angels could find with the strength and the courage and the power to confront him, to hold him accountable, to force him to have to answer to the law, to force him to have to confront what he fears more than anything else in this world… his own past, his own wounds, his own SELF… in short, to hold him accountable to grow up and behave responsibly in the world.

Know that in this world people may try to discredit witnesses, outrun police, outmaneuver judges and juries and judicial systems…
but that no one ever outruns SELF
and that no one, but no one ever outruns GOD.
It is universal law that when we spit in the air it eventually lands in our face. No one outruns that force of gravity. It is everywhere.
Likewise, no one ever has nor ever will outrun God. God is as everpresent as gravity and the chains people forge for themselves in life are theirs to wear far beyond this life.

Have courage and bear true witness. You are the braveheart. Speak your truth. God will give you the words. God will give you the strength.
The truth really does set one free.
You will see.

The agony of having given someone the opportunity to learn compassion, to learn to love themselves and other human beings, and seeing that individual throw away that opportunity in the depths of cruelty and destruction is the agony of Christ on the cross. It is far beyond anything any artist or theologian has ever managed to portray or describe adequately.
It is Christ screaming on the cross “MY GOD WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?!”
It is the Dark Night of the Soul.

The answers you seek are not to be found from people offering advice on an advice board. The answers you seek are not to be found from your average priest, nor your average doctor nor psychiatrist nor psychologist. What you are looking for is someone very well versed in dealing with what is known as The Dark Night of the Soul. The phenomenon was addressed in a book written by St. John of the Cross, mystic and Catholic saint.
The “feeling of darkness” you describe is exactly what is known in the mystic writings as “The Dark Night of the Soul.” If you use those words and say that you seek someone well versed in “The Dark Night of the Soul” you will find the help and the answers you seek.
Some priests are well versed in it but most are not. You would need to find one that is.
Some spiritual counselors are well versed in it, but most are not. You would need to find one that is.
Some psychologists are well versed in it, but most are not. You would need to find one that is.
Some physicians, some mind-body praciticioners are well versed in it, but most are not. You would need to find one that is.

blessings for your journey, you’ll get there, you’ll get clear, you’ll get free…
and every scar you ever had will become greater strength than you have ever known.
