What can we do on Sunday?

What can people do on Sunday in order to obey the command to rest on the sabbath? Can students work on homework or adults clean laundry or mow the lawn? What happened to the old practice of not even cooking on Sunday?

okay, just kidding…kind of. I heard a thing about this on Catholic Answers one day, and if I remember correctly, it was a matter of avoiding “regular” unnecessary work. In other words, if you went to the office five days a week, you should refrain from doing so on Sunday. Also, if there was something that needed to be done, and couldn’t wait, then that would be okay to do. I’m paraphrasing badly here, but that was the gist of it. Obviously, there are thing to take into account, like what you do for a living. If you are a trauma surgeon, it’s not really reasonable that you should expect all accidents, etc., to cease so that you can avoid working on Sunday.
 
You shouldn’t do any unnecessary physical work - so, for example, if you want to paint your dining room it’d be better to do so on a weekday. But generally I don’t think it’s a huge deal; we live in a busy time, and there will always be housework, so do the tasks that you have to do, but remember that it’s a day of rest, and try to set more time aside for being with family and friends.
 
i wonder is it a sin to watch sport of sunday or even go to a sporting event.

Well, if it is, I know of a great many priests who will need to spend some time on the other side of the confessional screen! 😃
 
Technically the Sabbath is Saturday. We do not celibate the Sabbath, we celibate the resurrection - a new beginning.

Lets take a passage from Luke:

“Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his a** from the manger and lead it out for watering?”

You do what you must.
