What can we do to stop children from starving on this planet?

I wanted yet another option which would be something like St. John the Baptist said, which was that the one with 2 coats needs to share with the one who has none and the one with food must do the same.
 
Reduce the population in areas unable to naturally sustain high levels.
 
Stop eating meat. Think about it: how much grain does it take to raise a cow? Use the grain that was going to be used to feed the cow directly to the people in need. Kind of like eliminating the middleman.

I suspect that adherents of Hinduism won’t accept a slogan such as “Starve the cow!”

Are we talking about preventing a hypothetical future cow, that doesn’t yet exist, from being conceived?
 
Have parents stop buying drugs and beer and alcohol and feed the children instead of having schools and the government try to take over parental responsibilities…

OOOOO, that was uncharitable. Not really like me. Must be having a bad day…

You might be able to sell that policy.

Watch out if you expand the list and tell them to not buy lottery tickets, pornography, cable TV, gold jewelry, silver jewelry, foods high in sugar and fat, …

The general item is: what a parent might want, but doesn’t need.

It’s a conflict between wants and needs: what parents might want versus the needs of somebody who was brought into the world by the parents.

I like this.

I would say further that we need more the kind of St. Martin of Tours. When in a cold winter, Martin, then a soldier, and his companions came upon a beggar wearing only rags and shaking with cold, Martin, having nothing with him drew his sword and cut his long cloak in half. He gave one half to the beggar.
 
The difficulty with hunger is that some areas in this world are unable to product food for the people there. I’m not an expert on agriculture so I don’t know the nuances, but for some places in Africa or anywhere in the world for that matter, certain plants don’t grow well (or at all) due to soil quality, the weather, water availability etc.

Some areas do have ample food, and sharing with one’s neighbor is doable. However some do favor teaching someone how to fish than giving a fish, with the latter being a temporary solution.

My answer(s):
  • Introduce global laws, specifying foods that require few resources to produce, but are high in nutritional value (e.g. lentils, chick peas, rice).
  • Encourage people to understand and embrace the vocation of chaste celibacy, whether they are called to religious life or not.
  • Declare all money to be null and void of value.
  • By global law, declare all private property a null and void concept, without any legal significance.
It’s a bit radical, but it could work…
 
Government and corporations need to invest in people throughout the world, by educating them. It’s an investment that will pay great dividends a little on down the road. Exactly how to implement this initial investment, I honestly do not know, but the entire world stands to gain through a super-strong economy and a standard of living increase like that never before seen; new high-tech products, mass production increases and scientific endeavors. With a little ingenuity and planning, it’s all possible!
 
The US spends over $650 billion every year on its military, more than Europe, Russia and China combined. If its armed forces spent more of their time stopping conflicts and helping civilians rise above poverty, it wouldn’t take long.

It’s hard to believe such naivete exists on this board. This is thinking that I would expect from eighth graders.

Reduce the US military significantly and we’ll end up the only lifeboat left in a world filled with nuclear and nerve gas terrorism and miniwars among all tribes, sects, warlords, and anybody who has a grudge or envy.
 
Wait, what? I voted the first two options without reading them well, why would you want to abolish swiss military for Hitler and Stalin? And how could these options help starving kids? They are even less effective than prayers!

Abolishing the billions of money spent over militaries and greedy corporations would be a good start.

Did the rest of the world ever ask the US to be its policeman? No, of course they didn’t. Did the US greatly help increase world terrorism by invading Iraq? Yes, of course it did. Does US industry gain by making so many weapons? Yes, of course it does.

Is the US a peace loving paradise? It lets handguns into place of worship. It locks away a higher proportion on its citizens in prison than any other country on earth (almost 5 times as many as the UK, Spain or China). What a great example to the rest of the world.

Every man, woman and child in the US spends $2,100 a year on their military. They do that selflessly to help feed kids in Africa? What a joke.

You live in Spain, a country that has never done anything for anybody anywhere in the world. That explains a lot.

If the United States announced that it was closing down its military,
all the Western governments would beg us not to do it.

Yes, why is this option not there ??? It is the most logical and most humane…

Everyone who has more ought to sacrifice something to alleviate hunger and poverty… Some folks are so wealthy that they could adopt a village or even several villages on their own… Which is precisely what I am proposing with the k
knights of Columbus . My proposal is that each council or wealthy individual adopt a village through a catholic missionary organization. So far only our council has started this. We have supported a village in Uganda for the past 3 year through the Holy Cross sisters.

IF every council did so, there would be 15,000 fewer villages starving.
 
How does hitler or Stalin even remotely help stop hunger ?

How about just contributing to charity organizations that feed the poor ??
