What can we expect from God in this life?

In our earthly lives, we have certain expectations of a father. For instance, he won’t leave us. He will protect us. He will help us. And if he fails to do these things, we lose faith in him. We won’t trust him.

But what about God the Father. What can we expect from Him in this life? If we trust and have faith in Him, what should we expect from Him in this life? I ask this because so often when bad things happen to people, they lose faith in God. But God never promised us that He would stop bad things from happening to us. But what has he promised us in this life that we should expect from Him and have faith that it will be given to us with 100% certainty?

God promised he would never forsake us, He offers us his love and grace for everything in life. But we must choose to accept that love and grace. His children in this world refuse him in their disobedience, and all humanity suffers dreadfully for that disobedience.Peace, Carlan

Journeyman, since you posted this in Sacred Scripture, here is a New Testament verse: Philippians 4:19 “My God will fully supply whatever you need, in accord with his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”

I think one thing that is safe to expect is that God will give us enough grace to attain salvation. We can also trust Him to reveal His truth via the Church and operate through Her, especially through the sacraments. As far as temporal things go, I don’t think there is a guarantee of anything, as you say. However, the Catechism does mention that we may merit temporal goods insofar as God deems them necessary for us to have (CCC 2010, 2027) :o
