I was reflecting last night on that following question: what do Protestants and Catholics have to learn from one another? I refer here not so much to doctrinal differences, but rather in practice of our faith. What elements do you see done well in the other group which your own congregation would be wise to emulate? There is plenty of opportunity elsewhere to note where you think the other group has fallen short, but I’d like this thread to focus on what is done well, but as an encouragement to our brothers and sisters in Christ and perhaps as a call to make new effort in areas we’ve neglected.
So Protestants, what practices do you often see better carried out in the Catholic Church than in Protestant ones?
Catholics what practices do you often see better carried out among Protestants?
To start things off, one area that I see strength in the Catholic Church is in Church discipline. Because of our focus on a very personal faith, I fear that while we have no qualms proclaiming truth on the airwaves or a street corner, we may be too reluctant and tentative in reaching our to a fellow believer to correct them when we see them straying. I must confess that my up close and personal observations of the Catholic Church in action are limited, but the organization of the Church seems to me to give them a better ability to offer unsolicited correction.
