What Catholic Books Have You Read Lately?

I just finished reading “Rome Sweet Home” by Dr. Scott Hahn. This is the best book I have ever read. I rate it a “10” on a scale of 1-10!!

Have you read any good Catholic Books lately?

Answering Islam by Norman Geisler and Abdul Saleeb

Perfect for understanding the history and beliefs of the religion.

“Confessions” by St. Augustine
“An Introduction to the Devout Life” by St. Francis DeSales
“The Secret of the Rosary” by St. Louis De Montfort
“Witness to Hope” excellant autobiography of JPII

Working on the Bible and the Catechism 🙂
(I have alot of time to read this summer)

God bless,
k

P.S. These are all excellent books that I highly recommend!!! 👍

A couple nice and short ones for me:

“Liberalism is a Sin” by Fr. Felix Sarda Y Salvany
*"*True to Devotion to Mary" by St. Louis De Monfort

Surprised by truth2 by Patrick Madrid
Lamb’s Supper by Scott Hahn
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
The Hidden Power of Kindness by Lawrence G. Lovasik

All were very good.👍

The Bible daily.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church

And just today I struck out on finding the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. I think I want to read it. Two Catholic book stores I went to was out of them.

I read a page a day of “The Joy of Loving,” by Mother Teresa, which is excellent- one of those daily-devotional type things. Splendid advice.

And I just purchased “Conversations with God for Teens”, but I have not read it yet.

Almost done with Catholicism for Dummies by Father John Trijilio and Father Kenneth Brighenti. This is a wonderful tool, so easy to read and digest, but also very thorough. I am loving it and find myself quoting it a lot to people in conversation.

Am also working my way through A Mother’s Rule of Life by Holly Pierlot. I have great hopes for a better year of homeschooling, homekeeping, marriage-building, and faith-strengthening!!!

For my children, I’m reading The Way of the Cross: A Story of Padre Pio by Mohan each morning. Their bedtime read aloud is The First Christians: The Acts of the Apostles for Children by Marigold Hunt. I’m learning and enjoying the books right along with them. 👍

For myself, I’ve just begun God Is Near Us by Joseph Ratzinger and I’m almost finished with Hail, Holy Queen by Scott Hahn.

(I’m adding many of the books listed in this thread to my wishlist. 😉 )

Recent reads are:

Scott Hahn’s “A Father who keeps his promises” and “Swear to God”
Biography of St. Clement Mary Hofbauer
Michael Davies’ “Cranmer’s Godly Order” - very interesting as I hadn’t heard about the approximately 5000 ‘martyrs’ of the West Country (England ) uprising. Cranmer also had the habit of having parish priests hung from the belfry of their churches in their Mass vestments and with all of their ‘popish paraphenalia’ tied about them.

Am currently reading “The Everlasting Man” by G.K. Chesterton. He sure had a quick mind and wit!!!

I recently read “Catholic Rites & Wrongs” by Kay Lynn Isca. A wonderful book.

Rome Sweet Home - Scott Hahn

The Early Church - Henry Chadwick

Swear To God : The Promises and Power of the Sacraments - Scott Hahn

Catechism of the Catholic Church (in parts 😃 - quite long!)

My next read

Stripping of the Altars: Traditional Religion in England, 1400 - 1580 - Eamon Duffy - currently seems to be lost in the post. If any of you guys receive it by accident send it back!

👍

OH this is a GREAT!!! book I think once you read it you have to become catholic!!!
All of Scott Hann’s books are great. I like the Lamb’s supper. It compaires the Catholic mass with the book of REV. I read all the left behind books and now I know how WRONG LaHaye & Jenkins are!
Another one Catholics and fundamentals by Karl Keating

Some more good ones I read,

Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic
David Currie

More from Scott Hahn
**Lord Have Mercy - The Healing Power of Confession
Hail, Holy Queen
Swear To God **

Daughter Zion - Pope Benedict XVI

This is a short book that he wrote while still prefect of the CDF which deals with Marian devotion and how it helps to fully reveal the divinity of Christ.

**A Philadelphia Catholic in King James’s Court ** by Martin De Porres Kennedy.

I really liked it, not quite as much as **My Life on the Rock ** by Jeff Cavins, but it was a good quick read. And, it gave me some more “ammo” to use on my sister in law.

I’m currently reading this book. Man, Padre Pio was a holy holy holy man. Very good example for young men to look to.

Looking for Theology of the Body as a wedding present for my soon to be husband. I can’t find it in the bookstores here. 😦
