What Catholic icons and images do you own

I have a crucifix above my bedroom door, a sacred heart (Jesus) picture, a picture of the Holy Family, Rosary beads, a small statue of the Holy Family, a St Christopher pendant, and a crucifix and chain.

In our bedroom, on my side of the bed is a statue of St. Joseph holding the Christ Child, and on my wife’s side, there is a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Immaculate Heart of Mary). In between the two statues is a Crucifix that stands. So in our bedroom by where we sleep, there are these 3 statues. They are about 5 to 7 inches tall. On the wall there is a picture of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We also have a few rosaries, a St. Michael Chaplet, and a St. Michael prayer card in the bedroom.

By our main entrance door to the house, we have a small Holy Water fountain on the wall and part of that fountain is a picture of St. Therese, “The Little Flower.”

The kitchen has a picture of the Last Supper. The dining room has a Crucifix on the wall.

Each one of our cars has rosary beads also.

I probably own more, but either I have given them away or they are packed away, I usually have only one out per season. Just put OL Guadalupe away (photographic reproduction of original) and now have just a Russian mother and Child, I would call it OL Perpetual Help but it probably has a name. For Lent I will have the Ecce Homo bust of Christ in crown of thorns. Trinity (the angels under the tree of Mamre) for Easter-Pentecost, don’t know for ordinary time. Probably Christ the Teacher, since my focus for the coming year will be training catechists. My rosary is on a hook by the door, and another at my bedside, where there is also a small standing crucifix.

I have several. Most were purchased very cheaply from used stores or estate/garage sales. My favorites are a large blue and silver-colored San Damiano cross, and an antique “Queen of Heaven” wooden triptych from Lalibela, Ethiopia. I have a few icons of Mary and Child, two of St. George the dragon-slayer (because I love Spenser’s “redcross knight” in the Faerie Queene), one Christ the Pantocrator, two depictions of the apostles holding up the church, a rosary, some Peruvian folk-art pottery churches with a nativity scenes, and a few candles with pictures of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

I have a sacred heart poster and a minature statue of Mary somewhere in my room. I also carry around a prayer card for our Holy Father and I keep my rosary in my pocketbook. But I don’t really have much Catholic icons or images. Mostly I keep a stack of theology books on my desk along with my Bible.

Have you checked out Christian Foundation for Children and the Aging? Great way to make sure your money reaches those intended, catholic friendly and more efficient than most.

If you send cash through the mail you can be sure it will never arrive at its foreign destination, and even if it did, your recipient would probably have to pay some duty on it. If you really want to help people in Sudan, gift to a Catholic mission society or Catholic Relief Services who has a presence there.

You can have a fine collection of religious art by collecting old Catholic magazines and church calendars, cutting out the pictures, framing them in cardboard or construction paper, or with cheap mattes and frames from the dollar store. I have a selection used for instruction and devotion in CCD settings made this way.

Hello,
I have a Divine Mercy in my living room.
I also have a San Damiano Crucifix (which includes a Third Order Relic), and a couple of candles in glass holders with paintings of Christ and Mary, at my prayer table. There is also a small crucifix (just about three inches tall) which my mom gave me.

We have a picture of Jesus and the Little Children on our dining room wall. A Crucifix on our bedroom wall, an old picture of Our Lady of Fatima and the three children, with raised cloth roses surrounding the scene, a picture with the Prayer Before Meals in our kitchen, and an old sick call set with a figurine of the Pieta (given to me by my elderly uncle, and yet to be hung on the wall). Also have a picture of Jesus in the dining room as well as a picture of the last supper, and a St Michael the Archangel figurine. My husband has a picture of the Child Jesus in his ‘man-cave’, and a picture of The Divine Mercy in the upstairs hallway.

I live in my the house my great grandmother lived in,
so many of these things were here when I moved in-

-a reproduction fo the Last Supper in the dining room

-a wall shrine to St. Teresa the Little Flower in what was the bedroom she used after my grandfather died.
I would love to find out more about it, but we have no idea how it is affixed to the plaster wall, and it’s been there so long- at least 40 years, we are afraid to touch it!!
I dust it with a feather duster as needed- very gently!!

-the crucifix that was in my grandfather’s casket, that hangs above our bed (which at one time was theirs), it has been there since the day he was buried in 1968

I have added the following-

-a picture of an angel that says “God grant me the courage & strength to endure my blessings today”, that also has my marble Rosary from Ireland hanging off it.

-a cross with the Risen Christ, aSt. Bridget’s cross & Celtic cross in my dining room

-an antique “sick-set” that hangs on the wall at my entryway. It is a crucifix that opens up so it stands up, with a couple of small candles, & a vial of holy water.

• about 20 different nativity scenes that make rotating appearances throughout the year in my china cabinet

And boxes of holy cards, medals and other assorted articles that the husband & I have accumulated in the past 10 years working with the elderly and in a variety of parishes!
Not to mention about 20 different versions of the bible, and a spiritual library that has taken up a 12x12 bedroom!!!

WOW- I have a lot of stuff!!!

Well, I have one Our Lady of Perpetual Help, one Black Madonna, one of St. John the Theologian (I think, this one is very old and oxidized), one Our Lady of Kazan, and one of St. Patrick the Enlightener.

My parents gave this to me years ago, most are recent copies, with the exception of the St. John Icon that is really too old and oxidized to know for certain.

I do not currently own any Catholic icons or images, outside of what is on various pamphlets, books, etc.

I am a recent convert into the RCC and, coming from a denomination skeptical of images, want to make sure I don’t go all “full tilt” stupid and actually understand why I am placing said icon/image in my home, what it represents, why it bolsters my faith, and all this to properly explain it should I be asked about it.

I look excitedly forward to the day when my residence is all "Catholic"ed out. But I look forward to that day because I will be surrounded not only by reminders of the Faith, but, also my journey through it so I can recall the ups when down and always be mindful of triumphing through the down portions- with the help of Christ, Mary, various Saints, the Church, Popes, Clergy, and of course, fellow laity.

I’ve gone from being weary about the idea in general to being weary of falling into a place where I can rightly be accused of the things Catholics are accused of by other denominations. That is to say, I don’t want to confuse symbols with what the symbol represents. Just as emotions are not my faith, nor do I want to risk emotionalism in attaching misunderstood importance to something. I guess you could say I’m courting these things, getting to know them before bringing them across the threshold. For nothing more than to keep from profaning them against the very One they objectively always point to, but, subjectively, for the admirer, are made scandalous.

My daughter and I have just had to move from our own house back into 2 rooms of my parents’ house so a whole house worth’s of icons, crosses and crucifixes, statues and rosaries is now adorning two box rooms. They were mostly given as presents or inherited so I don’t want to let any of them go. It is quite a sight!

If anyone’s interested, what I can remember is:

a bottle of holy water (have still got to get a stoup)
a cross from Mexico with lots of people on it
a cross from El Salvador with decoration
a cross with lilies on it
a cross with Medieval scenes of judgment on it
2 small wooden crosses with ‘God is love’ written along the bottom (about 1" each)
a carved wooden cross
a figure of Christ crucified (not on a cross) from Uganda

That’s what I can remember for now. Next week, we’ll be moving the books (among other things)!

Besides a few wallet prayer cards, and a rosary in my wallet, in my car, and in my house: I have a cross, a crucifix, and four manifestations of Mary. I chose to have multi-manifestations of Mary because I like to be reminded that Mary is for everyone, and that her beauty is beheld by everyone.
