New groups form as well from those who adhere to doctrines other than Sola Scriptura.
I also believe we are one church as well. I know that is hard for you to accept.
We are one Church, whether you like it or not. You are united to the Catholic Church by your christian faith, as separated brethen. Christ’s earthly presents is the Catholic Church. Being a christian unites you to the Church in that belief at least to a portion of it.

The simple equation goes like this, no Church equals no Christ. No Church equals no form of christianity.

I do notice your capitilization and have participated in discussions about that before.
The power of punctuation…

Well, which ones? We don’t reject all of them. Do you know why we reject the ones we do and accept others?
Do you believe as Catholics, that Mary is the Mother of God, a Perpetual Virgin, Immaculate Conceived without Sin, that Jesus was her only child?

Answe yes or no.

Do you believe that the Pope is the successor of St. Peter, which now Pope Benedict XVI as the universal head of all Christianity, whom Jesus appointed according to Matthew 16:18?

Do believe that baptism is necessary and it is more than symbolic meaning?
Do you care? Or is it more convenient for you to just subsume everything under sweeping indictments?
I care for the most part that Jesus Christ established One Church build upon Peter. We were not meant to be left as orphans. I don’t think the authority of the Church ended at the death of the last Apostle. It continued today through the bishops and Popes.

Of course, you differ your opinions on this. You are a Lutheran.

One church?! There are thousands of Protestant communities!!! Some are non-trinitarian, some baptize only in the name of Jesus, and all of this is from the man-made doctrine of Sola Scriptura.
Christ is not divided.

Explain yourself. I like details. 😉
Catholic charity’s…

Our members—a network of more than 1,700 Catholic Charities agencies and institutions nationwide—provide help and create hope for more than 7.8 million people of all faiths a year.

As one of the largest social service networks in the country, Catholic Charities agencies serve 4.1 million people living below the poverty line. That’s 1 in 10 people living in poverty. These agencies understand the consequences of poverty first-hand, and also know the solutions for helping individuals get on a path to self-sufficiency.

Feeding the Hungry
A warm meal or an extra bag of groceries to make ends are just some of the hunger-related services provided by Catholic Charities. In 2006, over 6.3 million people received food services—accounting for nearly half (47 percent) of the services provided by Catholic Charities nationwide.

In the last several years, nearly every Catholic Charities agency in the country providing emergency assistance has reported an increase in the demand for to help people meet their most basic needs—mortgage and rent assistance, utility assistance, food, clothing, medical supplies and prescription drug assistance, shelter, transportation, community information and referrals, and other services. In 2006, some 1,384,18,101 people received basic need services from their local Catholic Charities agencies.

By providing a safe and affordable child care, support for homebound seniors, employment training, health care, and other vital services, Catholic Charities work to build stronger communities. In 2006, some 3,618,993 people received community support services from their local Catholic Charities agencies.

Whether they are finding a loving home for a foster child or helping a person overcome substance abuse, Catholic Charities offer a wide variety of programs and services that help strengthen families. In 2006, some 1,093,339 people received family strengthening services by local Catholic Charities, including 468,844 who received counseling and mental health services.

Catholic Charities agencies are responding to an increasing demand, especially among families, for housing services. Whether it was housing counseling, help with home repair, rent or mortgage assistance, temporary shelter, or transitional housing, 474,999 people received some type of housing-related assistance in 2006.

Should I keep going or is this not the fruit you are looking for either…

Just one branch of the charity the catholic church performs

Liberty is a funny thing. Do we really have the liberty to interpret our faith by what feels right to us? Do you not agree that this is why there are multi-tens of thousands of protestant denominations (whatever number you like, it’s up there).

When someone says to me ‘all protestants are really just one big Church.’ I have to disagree. I remember being treated by baptists when I was a Lutheran practically like I was Catholic. One Church? Doubt it.

Isn’t every denomination of protestantism a denomination because it disagrees with its ‘mother group’ just enough to feel like it should break off?

Is there any question that God stands for just one way? How can we all disagree and still be unified? THAT is when you realize maybe we were not designed to interpret our own religion because it feels good in our hearts.

Maybe, just maybe, Christ left us a Church to follow and trust. My money is on that he did.

Just my thoughts.
Please note that I said Protestants err when they divide over nonessentials, and “feelings” are non-essentials.

The real difference is over the insistence that the church is essentially an institution and the idea that it is essentially a community, a communion of saints.

It certainly is an institution, but the RCC errs when it emphasizes this over communion and it does exactly this when it castigates its separated brethren over their fragmentation.

Protestants subscribe to the Apostles and Nicene creeds and are baptized with water in the triune name.

Are we not also part of His Body?

Isn’t that what St Paul is talking about here? Exhorting them NOT to fragment?

Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment. (I Corinthians 1:10)

If you don’t know the difference between exhortation and uncharitable snarkiness, I am not sure I can help you.

Paul didn’t say, “we’re over here, you’re over there.” He encouraged Christion to stay on the same side.

This is vastly different than what “Apologists” of every variety usually end up doing.

Any Beleiver is a part of the Body, but we must remember a Believer is someone who obeys,The question is what part of the Body do you want to reside in?

Not all protestants do, though. Some reject any form of creed and some baptize in the name of Jesus only. Is the Holy Spirit schizophrenic?

That’s not my call to make. God is the one who will separate the sheep from the goats.

If your answer is “Yes, Protestants are part of the Body of Christ” then don’t worry about the rest of it. It’s one thing to discuss differences and quite another to crow and bleat.

P_D, those who reject the Trinity have left the reservation.

Jesus Only modalism is also heterodox.

These people aren’t Protestant anymore than the Cathars were Catholic.

Probably some,
not a whole lot. Methodists do not seem to care about Catholics, they bash teleevangelists a lot…if anything

a dinner table, we have a buffet, but anyway:D
Yes we hold to scripture, tradition, experience, and reason.
My condolences! In my former denominaton (Episcopal), the novel addition of “experience” to the three-legged stool became the touch point for all the moral upheaval that has caused such degeneration. “My” *experience, “*my” spirituality, “my” sexuality.

Lately, I am hearing “experience” being touted among Catholics to advocate similar positions. In Theology of the Body JP-2 approaches the human experience from the “personalist” position. Very different from idiopathic “experience”. 👍

Thats you choice, Free will is a funny thing. Its not a question of worrying, its about knowing the COMPLETE TRUTH. If you content with receiving just Milk(Partial Truth) then so be it, but I prefer the Meat.

Oh yeh… Arent we to Love God with ALL our MINDS?

My faith is that the Church belongs to Jesus, it’s His Body and He will guide it into all truth.

The Church is every believer everywhere and in every time.

I see no need to ridicule or deride others who belong to Him as well.

I believe my church to have the truest and surest expression of the faith once delivered to the saints, but I don’t suppose thereby that all others are not Christian and I certainly don’t presume to whack them over the head with every mistake they’ve ever made in order to aggrandize myself.
