What causes some people to sin and not others?

Defilement may be acquired or inherited. The more or less degree in which one is defiled is an outcome of how he/she responds. After succumbing to a sinful urge, the person gets the opportunity to foretaste the consequence. If that does not deter the person and he/she chooses to enjoy sinful pleasure, then he/she grows in vice. If the consequent retributive suffering deters the person, then he/she tries to avoid sin and is led to seek God’s Grace to fully break-free from vice.

The sensual pleasure from sin attracts the person. If the person goes on that way, God provides opportunity to realise the emptiness of sensual pleasure and the truth of spiritual joy. A good imagery of this can be seen in the Parable of the Prodigal son (Luke 15). You may also read about the conversions of Saul the Pharisee (Acts 9) and the Jailer of Philippi (Acts 16). If the person avails God’s offer, he/she can break-free from vice.

Because of preferring carnal pleasure to spiritual joy.

All of us go through the blind phase before we receive the vision. You too will understand gradually and grow.
Why do all catholics assume that the sin is of a carnal nature to be sin?
Just a what the …
foundation is for this assumption?
Defilement can be a charge given for numerous reasons, why do Catholics specifically always assume?

What caused the person to be more defiled?

Why did the person choose to indulge rather then struggle against?

Why did the man that went the opposite direction of God refuse gods grace? What caused him to refuse? Free will did not cause his actions, it enabled them.

Maybe im blind but I still don’t feel like any one has given me an answer.
Catholics simply cannot answer this question, because the only possible answer would deny God’s perfect goodness and justice.

insecurity is the root of all evil.

a person that is more desperate or insecure than another is potentially more harmful.
And why is that person more insecure or desperate? Was he born that way?

Raised under certain circumstances that caused him to be insecure? If so, how is that fair?

Do you guys under stand what I’m asking? What is the root cause for some one to sin. What is the root cause that one person, under the same circumstances would sin and the other person would not?

Have you not read my reply (post #20)?

i told you already. the root cause is insecurity.

people steal because when their needs are not met or for fear of not meeting their needs. thats insecurity.

we are naturally lustful because as mortals we are programmed with the need to pass our genes. thats insecurity.

we are greedy because of our insecurity of what future needs would demand of us. so we have to stack on resources like ants.

name a sin and i will tell you how it is rooted to insecurity. 👍

Culpability is applicable as soon as one realises that one’s actions are wrong. Helplessness is not the criterion for non-culpability but ignorance is. Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains." (John 9:41)

A person who is slave to sin like most of us are, has the option to turn to God who is the “help of the helpless”. Even if he/she doesn’t do so, God will woo the person in every way. If the person adamantly refuses to be saved, only then he/she dies. The ones who go to hell are the ones who are hell bent.
If I follow that answer, I think I have no quarrel with it because you point out that God woos - i.e. the grace of God hath appeared to all men… and all that.

The “same” circumstances is a hypothetical because it is by definition impossible that 2 different people could be in the exact “same” circumstances.

Nevertheless, a variety of genetic or cultural factors could come into play as causal influences. But nothing forces a person to sin against his will. If he happens to act in ignorance, it isn’t a sin. Therefore, it remains, ultimately, the freedom of the will, weakened by the Fall, according to our Catholic faith.*CCC#418 418 As a result of original sin, human nature is weakened in its powers, subject to ignorance, suffering and the domination of death, and inclined to sin (this inclination is called “concupiscence”).*And I reiterate, if you insist that there is a final cause outside the “freedom” of the will, then you are denying the premise that the will is “free.”

he may be poor
she may be ugly
he may be weak
he may be shy
there are gazillion reasons for being insecure. these things lead to envy, jealousy, hatred, greed, etc.

there is no such thing as “same circumstance”. even if its oppulent twins both raised lovingly. if one of them makes a mistake dealing with people that could lead into the other twin being more favored than him. that leads to insecurity and he may do things to even the odds.

the question you should ask is:
WHY ARE SOME PEOPLE LESS SINFUL THAN OTHERS?

its those people raised lovingly and who has everything they need.

on the other hand third world countries are often full of crime, immorality and atrocity.

What causes one person to sin more then the next?

If I grew up and was taught a way of life that did not please god, is it my fault?

Basically, if some one goes to hell because of their actions, what made them choose to commit those sins? Were they born that way? Destined for hell? Or was it because of how they were brought up? That wouldn’t be fair would it?

Why is one man rewarded with a more pleasurable less sin full life because of how he was brought up then the next man?

I like to think of my self as a some what decent person. I grew up in a family that cherished their relationship with god. my best friend however wasnt. His family is catholic, but his parents divorced. his brother died in a car accident a few months ago. his mom lost her job and can barely support him.

Because of this he is beginning to turn away from God in frustration. is it his fault that this happened to him? Is it because he didn’t pray enough? If so, what caused him not to pray?

this was written from my phone, sorry for all the grammar mistakes.
Sin is adictive. So that giving into sin makes the next sin easier. Until it is a part of a person’s behavior. At this point, the thought comes, if it is this difficult to give up, then it must not be as bad as it is made out to be. Next, a sin wins approval to some degree, and the mind becomes confused about what is right and wrong.

Then as a saying goes, “in for penny, in for a pound.” Then other sins do not seem so serious either. And thus, right seems wrong, wrong seems right, true seems false, false seems true.
Darkness and confusion clouds our thinking.

Or another way to look at is that there are two paths, or roads, to travel down.
One is difficult and narrow, the other is wide and easy.
What road is chosen, the momentum does the rest, or as a saying goes, “a journey of a 1000 miles begins with the first step.”

Just a thought.

to me i think free will is a freedom but cannot be abused

what hits home to me also is the fact that in order for a mortal sin to occur you have to know it is wrong , and consent to it, and do it… you have the power to not sin

what a priest told me in confession really helped me

where there is temptation there is even more grace
