Does anyone know about the Newman Center at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville? My daughter is planning to go there in the Fall, is very serious about her faith and is hoping for a good Catholic support system.

They The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has had an average of 6 vocations a year come from this newman center. The diocesan vocation director is also the pastor of the newman center! I went there I would call it the public version of Steubenville. It’s totally awesome! Fr. Robert Matya is the priest.

aquinas Colllege of Michigan Is an extremly good College and Have very good Financial aid programs. Especially for active catholics.

good luck!

As far as Evansville, Indiana, there is a large community of “Communion and Liberation”, a lay movement of the Church (perfectly orthodox and approved by Rome). The university students belong to CLU (“clue”) which stands for Communion and Liberation University.

[This movement originated in Milan,Italy. Then Cardinal Ratzinger offered the funeral Mass for the founder of this movement, Luigi Giussani, who died last year.]

Lay movements (orthodox approved ones) are a great way to become more involved in the Church with others. This movement is really focused on the young, high school and college students.

The Newman Center at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst is becoming a wonderfully place with the constant dedication of the orthodox pastor and the addition a couple years ago of FOCUS. Great things are happening there!

I have not been to many, but the Newman Center at the University of Illinois is exceptional in every way, and until recently, was run by Msgr. Stu Swetland, a remarkable thinker and leader who you might see on occasion on EWTN.

I heard Tim Staples a few weeks ago on Catholic Answers and he was raving about the Newman Center at Illinois State University in Normal, IL. Apparently he was invited to speak there. According to Tim, their chaplain is amazing - Adoration, has the students praying the Liturgy of the Hours - even has a chanted Mass. I figure any priest that would invite Tim to speak to college kids has to be orthodox!

here’s a link to their site: www.teamnewman.org

I also noticed that Confessions are offered Monday through Friday and they have Adoration 3 nights a week - don’t think there are many *parishes *that can hold a candle to that.

Looks impressive.

The St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center at the University of Kansas is amazing… especially considering the fact that it is located at KU! The St. Pius X Catholic Campus Center at Pittsburg State is very good, as well as St. Isidore’s at Kansas State University.

I’ve heard good things about the Comeau Campus Center at Fort Hays University in Hays, KS.

Any other updates?

Didn’t read the whole thread, but I have heard good things about the one at Arizona State. And, our new Director of Catechesis came from there, and just completed her first year. She is very dedicated, very spiritual, and all about keeping our kids Catholic as they grow up. I can’t believe she left any slouch of a program behind her when she left!

I know this is an old thread, but an important one. Our older daughter had a wonderful experience, and met her sweet husband, at Indiana University’s Catholic student center (St. Paul’s, I believe) in Bloomington. She graduated 5 years ago, so I can’t vouch for it now, but their circle of friends from St. Paul’s was simply outstanding - all terrific Catholic kids.

This thread should be revived!

I graduated from Purdue University, and by any objective measurement we have one of the top Newman Centers in the country. We offer two daily masses, two daily hours of confession, about 20 student lead Bible studies, and an Awakening retreat program that brings in about 100 new students per semester. Many other activities are offered! So many students are involved in the Catholic Center that Purdue has the feel of a Catholic school. I had a very nice graduation mass held at the Catholic Center before my actual commencement.

I also hear that Texas A&M and UIUC are good.
