What condition is the Church in?

Davy39,

How I love “going home” to Ireland, but the “troubles” there are not just in the North. No people on earth have done more for the faith across the world, but her troubles are many so I pray often for “renewal” in this once great Catholic country. And the truth about Catholic France will break your heart.

Many speak of the shortage of priests, but to me the real shortage is in the commitment of the faithful to fully embrace “the message”. Why do we expect a clergy that upholds orthodoxy if we do not in our own lives evidence a visible commitment to it?

In America one estimate is that only 10% of those teaching RCIA fully accept Catholic doctrine on contraception. Can you say: “home school”?

We will have a more orthodox priesthood when we have become a more orthodox people [and, I suspect, more young men choosing priesthood]. In the mean time, fewer parishes and longer drives to fulfill our Sunday obligation may help inspire a necessary review of our own commitment. Could this be part of the “Holy Spirits” plan for Catholic America?

Still, there is evidence of this very renewal in many wonderfully well formed young priests and especially amoung converts.
