What constitutes an impure thought?

Hi, I’ve always heard in catechism books that “purposeful impure thoughts are sins.” What is considered an impure thought?

Dear Holly,

An impure thought is one that is a temptation for a person to give in to a sin of impurity. It’s a very personal thing. What sexually stimulates one person may not another.
