But how did He give us the Bible? Do you think that when Jesus ascended to heaven a KJV Bible came down in His place (some actually believe that)?
Protestants and Catholics do not believe the same thing about the Bible. Protestants think that it is the ONLY mode of revelation (among other distorted viewpoints). Catholics believe in the fullness of revealed truth.
The scripture was scripture the second it was written. Men recognized it because of the sovereignty of God.
But we both believe it. We both believe the Bible. You just believe in additional things. Go ahead try to talk a Christian out of believing his Bible…
But without the other two modes of revelation (Tradition and Magisterium) it isn’t even the Bible being read.
If he thinks I am not aware of the history of the Bible, that would be a mistake. It is a common slam. I suppose there might be people that think this but there are also people who believe that Obama is an alien. I read it at the supermarket!Rightlydivide… I don’t think that was what he was saying. I think that he is referring to the fact that the KJV, that came about…in what, the 17th Century, and has since been modified somewhat is not the original Bible… and it is not even in the same form as King James ordered it to be…where his orders required the Apocryphal books to be included…

I do not believe that. I believe that God is the author of scripture. God decided to give us the Bible I believe in a God that can do that. I think that men recognized it over time but it was never any chance of it being any other way because God is the author of scripture.
I do not doubt his historical knowledge. Unless I have a reason too, I usually assume most people on here know their stuff but we have different interpretations obviously of history, theology, and the Bible.
Do you think that God wrote the Bible Himself (as in actually physically penned) or that He somehow possessed the authors? Or do you think that the authors wrote Scriptures in their own words, but under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit?
True enough…and I have often thought that if we could just harness all of the energy expended on these forums…and turn it into electricity…we could eliminate the need for oil and coal…
You’d be surprised. I have talked with many who seriously and actually hold that the KJV Bible came down from the cloud when Jesus went up.

I think that God is the author of scripture.
Most of that is lost to history. But lets take Moses for example. He wrote the first five books of the Bible, if you believe Jesus anyway and not some whacked documentary hypothesis, and you would have to say that based upon his personal encounter with God, they instantly carried weight. It appears to be the same process with the prophets and so on. Certainly think about the apostles. Is there a single book written by an Apostle that the church did not recognize? I have heard that some will argue that some of Paul’s letters would qualify as such but I digress. No, I would say that the vast majority of the NT was recognized fairly quickly as scripture.
Never met a one. Maybe you know more morons that I do. Statistically it is possible.
