I think there should be a place where converts are appreciated for the gifts they have brought to enrich our church

Scott Hahn and his wife have given people a better understanding of the role of scripture in the mass…they are doing wonderful things within our church

Marcus Grodi has made it possible for others to leave their faith and join ours, in a way that might be less painless than before

So lets have a nice thread about converts, naming some of the famous ones, or telling about what brought you into the church

I feel bad when I see some treating converts like they are less than cradle catholics

Thank you! This is a lovely idea for a thread.

I must say that my first thought was, “What has the Church given converts like me?” The answer is, of course, Jesus Christ and the hope of heaven.

When I returned to the Church after many years away, I decided that I wanted to be confirmed, so my pastor set up an adult confirmation class.

Our confirmation teacher was a former pastor from a protestant denomination who had converted. His faith was so strong that he gave up his livelihood to come to the Catholic Church.

He is still searching for another career and is struggling financially, but he is confident that God will guide him in finding work.

To me, that’s inspiring.

Let’s not forget Venerable Cardinal John Henry Newman. He was a convert from Anglicanism and is on the road to Sainthood.

He was a great theologian and was instrumental in our understanding of how doctrines develop as our understanding of them increases.

Redrosetea, I smiled when I read your reference to Scott Hahn and Marcus Grodi, I’ve learned so much from those two gentlemen.

Journey Home is one of my favorite programs, my wife and I love to listen to the Marcus and his guests explain the reasons why they came to the Church and the differences that exist between the Catholic Faith and the one they left. I would imagine that many “Cradle Catholics” who have little to compare to the only religion they’ve ever known would enjoy the discussions.

Several friends and I went to listen to Scott Hahn when he was in town a few months ago, he spoke about his conversion to the Church,… and it was an* amazing* story. We sat and listened to him for over four hours and were to say the least; a little disappointed when he was done. It seemed like he’d only been there a few minutes.

Scott Hahn and Marcus Grodi spent years trying to disprove the Catholic Church’s teachings only to come to the realization that the Catholic Church has always had the answers they were looking for and never found. Both men have a wonderful way of presenting not only what the Church teaches, but explaining why those teachings are correct when compared to everything else they had been taught to believe.

Let’s also not forget probably all the early Christians, not least of which were 12 Apostles.

The people who go through the RCIA process inspire me with their enthusiasm and faith.
