I ask because, out of nowhere, my eye blew up and I was diagnosed with shingles in it.

While dealing with the pain and incessant discomfort, I’m reminded that this is an opportunity to carry a cross with Jesus in His Passion. It’s not easy–heck, I’d love for nothing more than this contagion to go away NOW–but using it as a cross for Him helps.

So, if I may ask, what cross are you carrying now?

Offering a prayer for your eye and health. :hug1:

Our cross right now is severe financial hardship. 😦 I’m having trouble uniting it to Jesus’ cross – when you don’t know if you can pay your electric bill (and everything else) it’s tough to focus on anything but that. :crying:

Sorry, pity-party over. :o

I figure He’s allowing it so that some good will come…perhaps there is a way I can learn and do better at uniting my suffering with His. 🤷

My adult ADD (diagnosed in July last year) - which has been an almost daily struggle for many years, and still is even with the diagnois and great help I’m getting.

Let’s see…I am a recovered alcoholic. Castrated. Arthritis in the wrists. Flat feet and fallen arches. Poor eyesight. Artifial lens in the right eye. Taking 6 prescription medications for depression, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, & cholesterol. Actually, comparred to most 63 year american males, I am in quite good shape. I’m even going to do the full 40 day lenten fast:thumbsup:

But my biggest cross now, and it will get bigger in the future, is my Mother, now in the early stages of Alzheimer’s. At least I have a nice paying job at the Post Office and can support her financially. Right now she can live independently, but I can see the day coming when she will need assissted living. 😦

I just went through a bout of bronchitis, and being I have asthma, it made things worse.

Now, I’m just going through some stress with elderly parents.

I have had spine disease and spinal cord damage for 5 years now. This has caused motor skills and sensory deficits, (nerve pain). My biggest disappointment is weak muscles and no fine motor skills in my hands and fingers. Can’t work or even do my hobbies anymore. I am an old rocker and used to be able to shred the strings off my guitar and I enjoyed working on my car.

Last year I was diagnosed with cancer. Melanoma, Stage III. Prognosis, not good. Three surgeries this year and immunotherapy starting soon. Interferon therapy can be terrible, but can’t quit, gotta do it.

I’m on anti-depressants, blood pressure, cholestrol, prostrate and pain meds.

What is good is facing my mortality has brought me back to God and his Church. I used to be a cafeteria Catholic. No more, I’m in 100%.

I have offered up to God my entire existence…body, mind, soul, and spirit, as well as my daily joys, pains and sufferings as a sacrifice in reparation for my sins. I am trying to expiate all my sins while still here and alive. I’m hoping for a non-stop flight or, at the most a very short layover in the Big P.

I f I end up satisfying my debts, I hope God will apply my offerings to the souls in Purgatory, or any other way he wills.

I am studying my faith intensely, but I am years behind and don’t think I’ll ever catch up. I think the most important thing to do is just try your best to love God obediently and learn all you can. I really like the CAF. It has helped alot.

The only thing that saddens me is after returning to my faith, my faith wasn’t strong enough to end my depression and severe anxiety over the fear of death. It took the Church and meds to accomplish that. I think I am on the road to balancing Divine Justice, which I greatly feared, with Divine Mercy. Sometimes I think I am to hard on myself. However, I do feel that my faith is growing as I learn and participate in the Sacraments. I am finally beginning to understand something that has puzzled me for years. The Communion of Saints. We are all in this journey together and that makes me feel good! It is wonderful to pray for others as well as yourself.

OK, enough ramblings from the village idiot! You asked and I told the facts of life…at least mine.

Take care and may God Bless all who read this.

Yours in Christ

My crosses are bearable these days, but here goes:

I’m broke as all get out. I haven’t payed my bills in three months, and things are going to start getting cut off if I don’t find the money for them. Normally I’d ask a friend for a loan, but most of my friends are equally broke right now, and I know I won’t have extra cash to pay anyone back for at least 8 months. I’ve got enough food for a couple of days in the fridge, and payday is in two weeks, so I’ll probably get by.

My boyfriend is equally broke trying to support his sisters, so he’s working overtime on the night shift. That means that not only can we not see each other, but there’s no time when we can call each other - one of us is always working, sleeping, or in class (I’m doing my Master’s). This is likely to continue until the end of the month. Sigh.

Prayers going out to everyone else for their crosses.

Hi,
I suffer from scrupulosity and it torments me and keeps me from living a happy life. I am always obsessing on some sin. Here is my latest one and wanted to get your opinion on what to do if you gossip. Here is the story:
I ran into an old friend about 2 yrs ago and ended up telling her about another friend and how she believes that it is OK to have sex outside of marriage. I also told her I thought she was having an affair with a married coach she knew.

What to do if you malign another’s reputation? I did write and apologize for saying she was having an affair of which I had no proof. But never apologized for the other part I said.

Severe anxiety that is afflicting pain on my body and emotional stress to my mind due to unrelenting difficulties over the past several years in my home and marriage.

My heart and my prayers go out to you all.
My crosses are heavy as well.
We are broke and have a HUGE electricity bill staring at us as well as a Huge car repair bill (over 2,500.00Dollars).
We have two children with Autism who require constant assistance and care.
My husband is struggling to support our family because decent paying jobs in his field are hard to come by.
But all in all These crosses are bearable because of the abundant graces of Our Lord.
Keep the Faith and Trust in God.
God love you all!

I don’t know if this helps or not, but…No matter how burdensome our trials and tribulations may seem to be to us individually, you don’t have to look very hard to find someone who is even worse off than you.

Sometimes I feel like God is testing me and I ask him when I can put the number 2 lead pencil down!

I also feel like so many things have gone wrong in my life lately, nothing surprises me when more bad news comes my way. I just shrug it off and say, “Oh well, I’ll just add this to my list of challenges and deal with it as best I can”. Sometimes I laugh at my situation and say to myself, what’s next?

Remember Jesus said his yoke was light and he is willing to help us with our burdens. I have given him all my burdens gladly without usurping my responsibility to share in hauling the load.

My advice, FWIW, is to not get overwhelmed by negative things in your life. Deal with things as best you can one day at a time. When the day is over, take a break. More than likely, tomorrow will be another day, the sun will rise and just pick up where you left off.

Yours In Christ

I am very humbled by the crosses that so many seem to be carrying. I think I as I told my wife tonight I might be suffering from depression. I’ve just been down for a while now and unlike many of the problems here, I have all sorts of things to be thankful for.

I’m ashamed of myself and breaking down as I write this. I go to daily Mass, pray the rosary, say the office and try to live a good Catholic life. My professional life has taken a downward slide and being in sales it affects income. I really am disgusted that I let so much bother me and get me down. My wife deserves better.

I just don’t know what to think. Seems like I’ve just been ‘down’ for several months now.

God Bless.

Ambrose,

I have had chronic low grade depression all my life and with all my fairly recent problems I have gone back to taking a anti-depressant and it has helped. Since you have been depressed for several months now, you may want to consider going to your doctor to discuss whether you should try some medication. Good luck and Blessings! 😉

despair, depression and an unending desire to commit suicide and go to hell.

Probably not as bad as others, but I have a hearing loss (mild to severe, depending on which ear it is.), vision impairment (missing retina, gloucoma…), and I’m unable to have children (I was born with deformed reproductive organs, and if I want to get married and have marital relations, I need an operation to create an opening - so yes, I have a closed womb, although one doesn’t exist). Even still, it doesn’t bother me at all - obviously not my calling to be married. One other thing is fast, random (and very, very repeatitive) thoughts that flow through my head, and will often happen when I’m praying, or if it’s quiet. So, I try to push it into the background, which can be hard.

I am praying soooo much for all of you!!!

As far as crosses, unemployment (while avidly looking) for “eons” it seems; extreme financial crisis due to no income and savings gone and single; no retirement income, if needed; severe anxiety, depression and other severe medical history, catching every cold or flu around, but not able to go to dr. due to above; rejection by grandmother (next most important person in my childhood after parents) who has oodles and is 97 and rich; extreme pride from being victim of abuse and medical problems; extreme stubbornness (genetic and learned, I think); not able/willing to have complete Confidence in Him regarding all matters.

Well, those are the worst ones.:crying: over too.

Now for my earthly blessings. Wonderful grandchildren, fairly warm/dry, aren’t hungry, good relationship with my mother and her husband and my daughter (and decent with my son-in-law to be), found orthodox parish to attend (and “enjoy” going!), able to be part of a choir there (love singing), essentially healthy and most recent employment agency I went to seems to like me/feel good about my ability to make them money. I may have left some things out and I thank Him for those, too.:signofcross:

Nice post, brigid 12. I am sorry for you and all the others here who are suffering now, in so many diverse ways, yet common ways as well.

Sometimes awash in our individual pains, we forget to thank God for our blessings. There is always someone worse off than us.

We should thank God for our blessings in prayer as well as asking for God’s help. I could be wrong, but maybe he listens better!

Lord, have mercy!
Christ, hear us!

It’s humbling and a great reality check to read this thread. I’ve had some terribly difficult times in my life but the moment I tend to think things are going very easily for me. I’m working and although it can get high-stress, I’m SO grateful to be working. I have some physical challenges from Rheumatoid Arthritis but these problems come and go. If I’d received that diagnosis about 30 years ago instead of this year, my future would definitely include lots of time in a wheelchair; but now, not necessarily. As Steve said, it helps to be as thankful as possible at all times.
