What dear friends will be the future effects of the SC ruling on marriage

Dear friends,

It seems to Me [IMO] that the Supreme Courts ruling on "marriage"l in addition to obliterating and nullifying “marriage” as now any two anything can be united legally, will in addition lead quickly to many other forms of attack on Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular.

What do you think will happen now?

1. The first thing to happen will be that birth certificates will no longer have lines for Mother and Father. If two “married” women have a child, the birth certificate will list the two mothers. There will be no legal record regarding who the father is. Children will be robbed of the right to track down their biological parents.

3. The church will be sued by rich gay couples for refusing to marry them… the legal fees will be huge. Even if the Church wins, the cost of defining itself will be high. Churches will most likely loose their tax except status before of this.

5. More mainline protestants and cafeteria Catholics will simply go along with the status quo
6. same sex polygamy will be allowed (and then “regular” polygamy).
7. people will be able to marry their cousins, brothers, sisters, parents, etc.
8. high school sex ed classes will encourage kids to try same-sex dating to see if they like it (this has already happened).
9. Christianity and religion in general (except Islam) will be made fun of in public schools.
10. Churches will need to start having armed security guards at the doors to protect the people during Mass (or non-Catholic worship services).
11. Bishops will be arrested and eventually martyred.

I’m sure here in the USA we will see a plethora of suits happening to recognize other forms of “marriage”.

Honestly it really means nothing. We know that the definition and intent of Marriage has not changed. In reality its only legal here and in a few other countries. Most of the world will never embrace it. So if a couple “marry” here in the US and go to any one of the worlds countries are they married in reality? No they will not recognize it! So in the territorial boarders they are legally “married” but elsewhere no.

What is really the danger here outside of the obvious religious issue is what it did to our constitution.

A year ago my answer would have been “not much.” But then there was an article on one of the Catholic online magazines by a Priest [cant remember his name, but the thread for it was posted on CAF] from Boston. After Massachusetts legalized SSM, he became aware that the rest of the country knew nothing about the aftereffects of this law.

There was a direct impact on schools. It was appalling to read about. It was an open invitation into hedonism. “How to” books, and cultural indoctrination into the society of “if it feels good.” I would have never guessed it could go so far. My eyes were opened as to what was “possible.”

I am not for GM, but what I am vehemently against is all of the ugly baggage that seems to come in along with it, such as in the case of Boston.

Well Catholic bakers will be forced to bake gay wedding cakes and Catholic Bed and Breakfasts will be targeted to force them to host gay wedding ceremonies

Anything is possible. Anyone can sue anyone for anything. It is true that homosexuals are particularly aggressive. But I don’t see them having any ground for such lawsuits. It would make as much sense as a divorced couple suing the Church for not marrying them. The Church might well lose its tax exempt status.

Why would the church need armed security? Why would bishops be arrested?

My opinion is that the homosexuals will not push too hard directly against the Church. They don’t need to. Most American’s don’t care what the Catholic Church says. This includes many Catholics. They don’t need to bring the Church down. If they push too hard they run the risk of going too far and getting pushback. They will certainly ridicule and mock it. They will attack it, but it will be more subtle and tangential, at least at first.

I think that time will help everyone calm down. It doesn’t help to panic about things that are hypothetical or in the category of ‘what if…’.

My guess, after knowing people in Canada and other countries where same sex marriage has been around for up to ten years, is that life will go on as usual.

You will begin to see more gay and lesbian people in your communities and hopefully your churches, who have families. Those families will sometimes have same gendered parents along with children and pets and grandparents and friends. I assume that you will be welcoming and gracious. Schools will of course teach that everyone has a family and families look (and ARE) different, no one being better than another. They are just different. This is a good thing. Think Mr Rogers here.

Your clergy will have to sort out how best to respond to those who are gay and lesbian and want to be included in normal church activities. But please remember that even if you believe that their homes and families are sinful, they are here among you and should be welcomed as brothers and sisters in Christ. As are you.

(No one is going to be martyred over this. Please. I have not heard of one Canadian Catholic who has been martyred in the past ten years over gay marriage.)

So please just calm down and let things unfold as they are going to. Go to church, say your prayers, and welcome the stranger as Christ among you.

Don’t you remember that martyrdom of all those Bishops who refused to allow it? All those mobs with pitchforks and torches attacking the local Catholic Church because it wouldn’t marry Donald Trump to his third wife? How can you have forgotten?

Did life go on as usual in Canada? Didn’t the government fine people who spoke out against homosexuality?

Schools will of course teach that everyone has a family and families look (and ARE) different, no one being better than another.

Why would schools teach that? That is a moral judgement. Are schools teaching morals in Canada? Who determines this morality? What is the basis of this morality?

If they are to teach morality isn’t it a rather ridiculous idea to think no families are better than others? My folks were divorced. That was a clearly worse family than those where parents weren’t. Having grown up in a divorced family I find it hurtful for someone to say my family was not seriously lacking. That downplays my lived experience.
