I agree that there are non-Catholic saints. There are Catholic ones, too. We cheat ourselves if we automatically rule out any other Christian denomination as not producing holy people.
However, we believe that the church catholic (katholikos – universal, or “among the whole”) is something which includes all communions of baptized Christians. In short, I don’t think the Methodist Church has a monopoly on people who are closest to Christ.
I understand that. The Catholic Church also teaches that all baptized Christians are members of the Body. But if Methodists or any other denom doesn’t believe their particular church is the fullest, why choose it? Just a matter of personal preference? Because the teachings of various denoms are often different.
I believe Methodism to be the fullest faith - but it is only part of the true faith, of which the church catholic shares.
At best, communions are the best expression we can offer, but they still fall short of the fullness of Christ. On this point, I suspect we will disagree.
