My dear friend Sr. Emily Rachel is probably the biggest fan of Dorothy Day that I will ever know. Prior to Sr. Emily joining her order and being among the laity, her and I had wonderful conversations about our faith. I recall one talk we had about the book “The Life of Saint Joseph” by Maraia Cecilia Baij and how I felt like so much of what was attributed to Joseph according to the book really only could or should be attributed to Jesus. It’s as if saints such as Joseph or Mary are beyond human, not like the rest of us.

Emily said something to me, I can’t remember exactly what but I do remember thinking it was incredibly profound. Something along the lines of that many seem to or at least seem to want to apotheosize or quasi-deify some saints. She made reference to Dorothy Day in that Ms. Day expressed similar sentiments. Might anyone know what I may be referring to?
