What did God do to Nebuchadnezzar?

I found this in bold, had never heard this before…it appears God turned him into an ox, but then he grew feathers and claws like an eagle? Im not sure if this was something God did, or was it actually God condemning MAN for attempting to mix animal-human genes in creating hybrids? And what is meant by the seven times…Im assuming this was a period of 7 years, or…?

I believe there is a similar thing that happened in the Tower of Babel, where God apparently turned some of the people into apes and elephants…?? Seems there was some strange things going on back then!

4:31 While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
4:32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
4:33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws. — The Book of Daniel
 
It appears to me he ate grass, his hair grew long and he stopped trimming his nails. There is no need for strange animal-human hybrid theories.
 
Maybe he became a Tree Man. There is such thing and only two people are known to have this affliction. This problem makes a person look like a tree.

Warts grow on the skin; then the warts sprout into nodes which grow into tree-like branches. It is on the internet under “Tree Man”. One of the people lives in Indonesia, and he had 13 lbs. of warts removed one year and must keep having these surgeries every year since it doesn’t go away.
 
Gotta go with the consensus, here, mikekle. The passage doesn’t say anything about god turning him into an ox or him sprouting actual feathers, just that he grazed like an ox and his hair and nails grew to resemble the feathers and talons of an eagle.

As for your alternate hypothesis that the story reflects a condemnation of genetic hybridization by us – who in Nebuchadnezzar’s time would have had the knowledge or capability to do THAT?

That our ancestors conceived of, and made images of, human-animal hybrid creatures does not mean that they had actually seen such things in real life, much less that they could create them.

“Functioning guy-with-an-animal-head” is far beyond even our current capabilities, and we know a lot more about what living creatures are made of and how to mess with it than any previous generation.

A short answer: it’s clearly a simile. You’re being too literalistic here. :cool:
