What did Jesus mean by saying that for anyone who wanted to follow him had to pick up and carry his cross?

Don’t want to rain on your parade in that I’m always enjoying the dynamic of real time answers but to start you out, here are some answers from this same question that I asked a month ago or so. 😀

Picking Up Your Cross Each Day. What does it mean? Sacred Scripture
This saying by Jesus is very prominent in the Gospels. Does it have one definitive meaning or multiple layers of interpretation? My questions tend to be open-ended by nature so don’t feel too constrained. Thoughts on this verse? Meanings? Unique ways that you see this teaching. Concrete examples from your lives and the lives of others? Don’t be shy. All thoughts are welcome.

Hi, David!

Jesus Commands that His Followers accept the burden of everyday-life.

Sadly, at least in the US’s televangelism, this has come to mean nothing as they purport the “keys” of wealth, health, and prosperity.

It is the reason why acts of kindness, responsibility, self-control and sacrifice are seen as “good” but optional Christian “choices.”

Maran atha!

Angel

He meant that we must learn to unite our sufferings with Him:

Romans 8:17 and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.

Have you ever heard the admonition, “offer it up”?
