Well, the article basically says since the average guy in Judea at that time looked x and y, then probably Jesus looked x and y too.
The truth is that nobody knows for sure, the only hint is probably the controversial shroud of Turin (if authentic). By the way, there is a variation of phenotypes in every population. I personally met an Egyptian wIth bright red hair and freckles, an Indian girl with green eyes and so on… I myself very often have been identified (erroneously) as belonging to a different ethnicity than my own because I don’t fit certain stereotypes.

The best way to see what Jesus looked like is to look at the Shroud of Turin. 🙂

The way you put it so simply finally made a connection for me, specifically the Divine Mercy image. I suppose it doesn’t get more authoritative than God Himself saying, “Paint this image of Me!”

It is an interesting phenomenon that Mary changes her appearance in her apparitions: eg. Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Akita, etc. Yet she was a real woman on Earth with a definite appearance while alive. Just speculating whether Our Lord might appear differently to different people…

Average VERY good looking, that is–not average like the majority of us. Still, very interesting as you can really pick out the subtle differences in bone structure, etc. I wish they had included the U.S. for the women’s pictures.

He looked like a 1st Century Hebrew from Palestine. Everything else is speculation, private revelation, etc.

King David had red hair. Was he an average looking man of Palestine of his time?
I am sure even if the twelve apostles were average looking Hebrew from Palestine at that time, they not necessarily were all looking exactly like the picture created by the author of the article cited in the OP’s link.
How many of us can self identify with the average face of man or woman in the link I provided? I bet not too many.

I thought The Passion of the Christ film did a good job with authentic-looking casting.

Given the sheer amount of correlation between the Shroud of Turin, the Sudarium of Oviedo, the Divine Mercy Image and the Veil of Veronica, I’d say we know what he looked like. The only potential difference is that he might’ve been a bit redder in skin tone.

Well, about a minute ago Jesus looked down at Earth, saw what some of the more “creative and progressive” heterodox church leaders were doing …

And He LOOKED like this … 🤯!

Then He said His own NAME to Himself. 😲

If you believe private revelation (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

The painters name is Akiane, her first version of this painting was done at 8 years old. Apparently she had visions of heaven and Jesus. You should look up her story: https://akiane.com/

The assumption is that Semitic people are all swarthy, ugly people and as Jesus was Semitic he must have looked like a primitive, ugly, swarthy person
You seem to be correlating swarthy with ugly and primitive. And describing good-looking people as lighter-skinned.
Please tell us that’s not what you meant.

The shroud would be speculative. The Veil was allegedly revealed to St. Veronica. Neither is authoritative nor required to believe, so no “case” needs to be made.
