Mother Anmglica said Christ wrote the names of the men that had fornicated with her and the day and the time

I’ll bet that made a few of them weak in the knees…no wonder they put down their rocks, because I think they might have been stoned as well

This has ALWAYS been my thought as well. See my two earlier posts…🙂

I don’t know what Jesus wrote. Perhaps Jesus wrote in the sand to control his anger. He might not have been able to look at the accusers as they were trying to kill the woman and therefore he looked and bent down. Maybe he was also working out what to say. I suppose they could have tried to stone him back.

Jesus was calling them foolish?

Proverbs 27:3, “A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than them both.”

Jesus did not say to the scribes and Pharisees or the woman “come see what I have written on the ground”. Perhaps it’s meant to be a mystery. We can speculate what Jesus wrote on the ground. But that’s all it is, speculation. But I would guess, well speculate, that Jesus wrote the sins of the scribes and Pharisees that were there.

Perhaps Our Lord wrote the sins of all of them starting with the woman, and when He had finished telling them “Let him who has no sin cast the first stone”, He bent down again and crossed her’s out.
This would symbolize how her sins are forgiven but theirs still remain.
