What did Satan know before he tempted Jesus?

Some people are telling me that Satan knew Jesus was just a mere man otherwise he would not even have tried to tempt Jesus because Satan knew, God cannot be tempted. I am saying, Satan did not know because all his temptations started with “IF you are the Son of God”. IF clearly indicating uncertainty.
I’m also told Satan knew who Jesus was because of Luke 8:28. I am saying that was AFTER Satan had learned from his unsuccessful temptation attempts that Jesus was not just a mere man.

Who is correct?
