What Did the Virgin Mary Do When Jesus Was Crucified?

It disturbs me that this passive creature is held up as the Ideal Woman.

I know that my own mother would not have just stood by while I (or one of her other children) was crucified. She was not a stupid or violent person so I doubt she would have tried physically rescuing me.

But she might have tried pleading with Pilate, bribing a guard (to help me escape), or even just smuggling something in to me. She would definitely have done SOMETHING.

Did you know that Jesus was God and came to this world to die for us? He not only died for us but He chose to die for us. However, He needed Mary’s consent also because He chose to come into this world to die for us through Her and She gave it because She loves us. Not only by Her choice and sorrows did She save us with Christ but had the executioners been lacking She would have willingly crucified Christ Herself to save us, all with His consent of course.

Now obviously, since Jesus isn’t God, this whole story is made up so Mary should be regarded as a total whore for doing nothing and Jesus be held up only as a moral teacher… wait a minute, OF COURSE NOT. Mary is kind and decent. Mary converted 8 million people at Gaudalupe, influenced Catholic moralitylike you wouldn’t imagine and not only accepted becoming Mother of God but also became Mother of all men. If ary didn’t love Jesus, She wouldn’t have spent three days searchign for Him, nor would She have reared Him all Her life and kept Him in Her house for 30 years.

Of course, you’re one of those infallible beings who doesn’t believe Jesus is God even though He Himself said so. No He was not a moral teacher, because a moral teacher at that time would have been locked up, stoned or regarded as crazy by everyone. Hell, we still do that today depsite how ‘civilized’ we supposedly are. Thats not what Jesus wanted. Either you accept Him as God or you can petend He enver existed at all.

She accompanied her son and wept.

I don’t know if you have read the Gospel accounts of the trial and execution of Christ. If not, I would recommend them to you just as a matter of social benefit. Believe it or not, though the intimacy has decreased over the past 2 millenia, the basic method of apprehension, interrogation, psychological pressure and abuse, followed by the inexorable and impersonal conclusion have not changed much.

Read one or two of the narratives. They are online, it won’t take you more than an hour to get through them, probably less.

Then get the movie of Truman Capote’s “In Cold Blood” and watch that.

If that is too raw for you, then I guess “The Green Mile” is a good second choice, minus Stephen KIng’s mysticism.

The point is that capital cases are a kind of ritual murder. Even now. We often rely on the worst scum to render testimony against the accused, then we bend every law to attempt to get the accused to agree to his own death, by turns holding out the prospect of leniency interspersed with threats of destruction. The accused is required to process and evaluate inconsistent information while being held in an unfamiliar, hostile environment.

Mom is the last person they let him talk to.

He gets a lawyer who may, if he is very lucky, be up to the task, but who in any case has nowhere near the information that the police do.

The purpose of this ritual is to reinforce the myth that our justice system is fair, that the accused can alleviate his condition by accepting responsibility and thereby enabling a community catharsis. No one likes to think the system isn’t working. It is at once incredibly concentrated and impersonal. Bizarre does not begin to describe it.

But let me tell you, you ain’t seen powerless until you have seen a man in the cross hairs of a capital case.

So your judgment rests on your personal experience.
How terribly limiting - you simply reject Scripture.
How about A. Lincoln, G. Washington, etc…
Can you (do you) accept their places in history? Or
does all of history rest with your own “observations?”

Those are not the only options.
Jesus could have been a madman, he could have lied, he could have had his words distorted by the people who actually wrote the believe, etc.

And why would I care whether or not Jesus said he was God?

What would that prove?

If I said I was God would that prove that I am God?
