Hi everyone,

I was just curious, what did you give up for Lent this year?

I gave up sugary sweets, desserts, etc… I never really realized how much sugar I ate until I gave it up two years in a row for Lent!

Also, another side question … do you think it’s “cheating” to eat fruit since fruit is also sweet? Thanks !

Good luck with your sacrifice, Chrismasfetus, i know how tough that one can be! I decided on a few different things this year, including no chocolate, extra Bible reading every day, fast twice a week, and a few more.

PS I think the description of ‘sweet’ is of personal discretion but I would be cautious in giving up fruit because of the medical repercussions!

I gave up being a pessimist. All negative frames of thought.
PS I don’t think that fruit is considered “sweet”. I think of giving up cakes and candy when you say sugary things.

I gave up my favorite meal: buffalo chicken pizza! People laugh when they ask me and I tell them that. I enjoy it so much. That’s the best thing I could think of.

And fruit does not count, unless you *really *love fruit and intentionally included fruit in your definition of “sweets.”

I gave up the sweets too. But I’ve decided not to be too scrupulous about it. When I’ve given them up before I’ve actually gotten sick from not taking in enough sugar. So, if I have to I’ll have a diet coke or something similar. I don’t particularly like it.

I’ve also given up fast food. It’s way too wasy to just stop and pick up dinner on the way home. I hadn’t realized how much I was doing it.

And I’m fasting on nothing but water on Wednesdays and Fridays in Lent. I’m offering up the wed fast for a particular intention and the fri fast for various intentions.
