While it is true that we could still have been redeemed by Christ’s death and resurrection even had he been married to Mary Magdalene, the question of such a marriage is indeed important. It tells us a great deal about the person of Christ and his relationship to the Church because, traditionally, the Church has recognized that Christ is the bridegroom of the Church.
