It is the same in that the proper, the part that always stays the same is the same. It is different in that the common, the part that changes every day, changes. I.e. the readings are specific for the day, the Eucharistic prayer is chosen from among several options, the antiphons, opening prayer, communion prayer etc. change each day. The ashes may be distributed either after the homily, or after communion, or after Mass.

FYI: The propers of the Mass are the changeable texts or variable texts which are proper to that day or feast. The unchangeable texts of the Mass are the prayers which comprise the Ordinary.

How is the Ash Wednesday Mass different than regular mass?
I’ll start with how Sunday Masses in Lent are different then Sunday Masses outside of Lent. The gloria is not sung, and alleluia is never said, the Gospel acclumation is changed. With that said, Ash Wednesday Mass follows this, the only thing different is that the faithful are marked with ashes.
