I’ve gone to a few Trek conventions and met a lot of the original and TNG actors. Deforest Kelley, Dr. McCoy, was my favorite.

I also liked the short-lived horror/sci fi series “Kolchak the Night Stalker” that came out in 74. That was such a fun show. The “Night Stalker” pilot was really cool with the vampire in Las Vegas! Had to love that one!

I can’t believe you didn’t like the X-Files! GKC, you lost points with me on that one and then being all the way with Dune, brutha! lol:shrug: Now get with the program! My wife is really an X-Files fan so I won’t tell her you said that! lol

You have to remember, I’m age 33. I grew up in the 80’s and as a little kid loved the mid to late 70’s shows in reruns. I liked Buck Rogers and Battlestar because I was a little kid and they were fun. I watch them with my kids out of nostalgia. They’re not heady and cerebral but fun.

Wouldn’t try to take them from you, though.

I don’t find anything about conspiracy theories boring! lol…I work as a teacher in a school district. I’ve worked in three school districts in my life and have seen more conspiracies against teachers by administrators than I know what to do with! If school districts are this conspiratorial, imagine what presidents, senators, the pentagon, and everyone else does! lol…
I loved the spice, fremen, heck man, even the Harkonnens at times! lol Ya gotta throw out a little love to Dune!

By the way, I have met some of the folks you mentioned. I did meet Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) and also Walter Koenig (Chekov) as well as Majel Barrett (nurse chapel/Lwaxana), Jonathan Frakes (Riker), Marina Sirtis (Troy) and even John DeLancie (Q)…

You would NOT believe what a turkey Walter Koenig (Chekov) was! OMG! I took a picture with him, shook hands with him, he seemed really cool. Then when he sat down at the table as the people got in line for autographs, he said to the coordinator, “Oh come on. You seriously gonna make me sit here and sign autographs from all these people? I don’t want to mess with this $%!$. I hate this garbage. You know I hate doing this. Give me a break”

I was disgusted! He seemed like he hated the fans.

Never met Doohan. Seemed like a great guy.

Saw Shatner and even got to see Gene Roddenberry. He died a year later…

Get it. Read it. It’s a classic… and Catholic to boot.

JMS used the storyline from Canticle as a basis for the future of the Babylon 5 series (my favorite sci-fi series). Even as a hardcore atheist, JMS managed to handle religion rather well in the series, unlike Roddenberry’s work. The episode “Travelling Through Gethsemane”(sic?) was one of the most moving TV episodes ever, IMO. (and it had our boy Brad Dourif aka Grima aka Piter as the main character)

I also found a lot of the cast of B5 were down to earth and great to talk to at cons. Trekwise, Frakes was a total riot and very friendly, so was Doohan (RIP). I wish I had met DeForest Kelley before he passed away. He was always my favorite character and actor on the series. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Karl Urban (of Eomer fame) plays him.

Those you list were among those others I referred to. Never saw that side of Chekov, though.

Doohan was a delight, accommodating, personable, gossipy and open. I once was speaking to him at a con, while he was about to sign a pic for me, and a voice sounded behind me, asking if he could interrupt, to speak to Doohan. It was David Prowse. I yielded to Darth Vader, of course, and wished mightly for a camera to record the intersection of 2 SF universes.

I urge you, in all sincerity, to read CANTICLE. Probably the best SF I’ve read, and something you will likely find to your liking.

OTOH, you can pass the highly problematic sequel ST. LEIBOWITZ AND THE WILD HORSE WOMAN.

JMS used the storyline from Canticle as a basis for the future of the Babylon 5 series (my favorite sci-fi series). Even as a hardcore atheist, JMS managed to handle religion rather well in the series, unlike Roddenberry’s work. The episode “Travelling Through Gethsemane”(sic?) was one of the most moving TV episodes ever, IMO. (and it had our boy Brad Dourif aka Grima aka Piter as the main character)

I also found a lot of the cast of B5 were down to earth and great to talk to at cons. Trekwise, Frakes was a total riot and very friendly, so was Doohan (RIP). I wish I had met DeForest Kelley before he passed away. He was always my favorite character and actor on the series. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Karl Urban (of Eomer fame) plays him.

Even though I prefer the written word, B5 was an interesting series.

Fossils, fossil rocks establish that the first Human Like apes about couple million years ago, discovered IN 1980’s in Africa, were: Male and Female, walking upright In Step footprints with their little kid scampering around behind them. Again, Couple walking In Step, close enough to hold hands, with child. Definite early Ape family. Skeletons, etc, in NE Ohio, (Youngstown?) Museum. National Geographic had big Article on that key find, 1970’s or 1980’s. (Gave rough documentation).
It was the Human like Ideal Family behavior that is so Remarkable, so Very long ago.

Dourif is just a hilarious legend. That guy was great in the Stephen King movie Night Shift playing that rat exterminator. Hilarious! And of course, what’s NOT to like about Piter and the bombastic eyebrows! He and Freddie Jones sure had some eyebrows in Dune, dang!

I love Toto’s soundtrack on Dune. I saw Toto last year in concert on their farewell. God those guys can rock it.

Never got into Babylon 5 really.

Never even heard of the “Canticle?” YOu make it sound pretty intriguing. Maybe I’ll check it out…

You’re going to hate me but I gotta say, I’m really NOT into the idea of this new Trek movie. Urban as McCoy? Come on! I don’t see it…just like the new “Get Smart.” Give me a break. I wish they’d just quit touching classics and butchering them with anachonisms and changing the formula, messing with perfection!
