What do Anglicans call their ministers?

Stepbrother in Christ Emeraldcoast:
The Catholic Church does not “Order” us to think exact ways. It uses great Reason for Us to accept it’s Teachings. The Church does Not use ‘power’; It uses Far more ideal Reason.
The Church does not tell us how to relationship with Our Lord; It teaches Our Lord’s teachings, and Reasons to us about them.
Aware that A Qualifier to be a Catholic Priest is 4 Years Post-Graduate Education, Before Masters or Doctorate?

Not aware that many of the Greatest Minds and “Doctors of the Church” have been Nuns? :nun2: :nun1: First Centuries on? Ever considered Mother Angelica? Her Very worldwide EWTN? Mother Theresa’s great Wisdoms? St Faustina of Poland, who died 1930’s? St Theresa of Liseaux? St Catherine? Etc, Etc, Etc?

And the Catholic Church does Not judge Any Person on Earth as an Unrepentant Sinner". That is Very Alien to Catholic thinking, Teaching which is Literally a Continuation of Our Lord’s. “Judge Ye Not, lest Ye be Judged in the Same Eye” (Way).

Ever considered where God said Truth on Earth is? Try ** 1 Timothy 3:15: **Truth on Earth is in the Apostles and His Church which He founded: Mathew 16:18-19. :bible1: :highprayer:

And The Church has, Teaches highest respect for all Ministers, Faiths, every person, because everyone is some way to the Lord, even if indirerectly. We believe with Lutherans that doing Good, Helping Others shows Faith in God, even if indirectly.
Nicely stated! The tired argument that Catholicism is a works-only, judgemental institution that condems folks to hell is silly and they know it.

Emeraldcoast is a great lady actually. She has a big heart and a great sense of humor. I enjoy her on here most of the time. I disagree DEEPLY with her liberal views but she’s a good egg. She thinks I’m judging her. Far from it. I’m judging the church she has chosen to join based on 2,000 years of tradition, the scriptures, the infallible statements of the Popes, and common sense. I happen to agree with the Catechism of the RCC that non-catholics CAN go to heaven and probably frequently DO. I just hope that protestants can see that their chances of salvation diminish when they don’t have a valid priesthood, lack holy orders, only have two out of seven sacraments, don’t go to confession, don’ t have a valid Eucharist, and live their lives according to the opinions of protestant ministers. Jesus gave us a Church, a wonderful Church. I’ve read A LOT about the Church of England. It is a sad history wrought with contradiction, persecution, mass murder, political intrigue, and compromise. It’s greatest sin is COMPROMISE. Jesus doesn’t compromise. The “big tent” analogy sums up the scariest reality of that denomination. I don’t judge anyone. Only Christ can do that.

Not a particularly recent innovation. Dates back to the period of the Tractarians, followed by the Ritualist movment. Say, 175 years, more or less.

But sure, some Anglicans don’t do that. As everyone points out, there are a lot of types of Anglicans out there. Including my type, not in communion with Canterbury, and singing the Angelus after every Mass, while praying for Benedict and Bartholemew.

More general yelling to follow, on the part of everyone, I suppose? Jeers, dead cats, and popular catch phrases hurled in all directions, I’ll warrant.

A Blessed Gaudete Sunday to all.

No yelling. No dead cats. I LOVE cats. My favorite animal. No popular catch phrases. lol…I still think you’d make a great Roman Catholic, GKC…you’re 99% there, brutha! Take that leap, man! Kudos to NOT being in league with Canterbury. Canterbury is just plain embarrassing! Between Rowan’s ludicrous desire to allow Muslim Sharia law in England to his inability to calm the liberal crazed TEC to his failure to respect conservatives, he’s a totally impotent leader. But then again, in Anglicanism the “first among equals” never worked really to begin with…

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes I am! 👍
You make a lot of valid points about TEC and the Anglican realignment and I agree with you about most of them. However, you’re posts read like you have a lot of emotionally baggage from your anglican days and your points tend to get lost.

Well your name says it all—universalist. Sounds like everything is ok with you already! But then again, that which we call a rose, by any other name…You make me sound angry but you use CAPS a lot lol…

You’re not convincing me with terms like “big tent church.” Sounds circus-like and it also sounds like anyone of any thinking even if it is heretical and anti-Christian can join up. As long as you’re warm and breathing, you’re welcome. You can believe whatever you want and express blasphemous ideas but that’s cool! We don’t want to offend your sensibilities, man! Yes, I’ve seen “The Episcopal Church Welcomes You” signs. Funny how the conservatives like John David Schofield were INHIBITED by your “welcoming” bunch! Conservatives for years with traditional values were marginalized in this “big tent” and pushed out. Those who rightly believe in the pro-life movement, fight female clergy notions, find the sexual teachings of the Episcopal Church to be deplorable, all these folks have been excluded from the church and have broken-off. And it’s also funny how “Big Tent” Katharine Schiori has done a bang up job of SUING the conservatives trying to break off! She’s suing for their property! Yep, sounds pretty tolerant. When John David Schofield broke off, he allowed ANY church in his diocese to stay with The Episco-pagan, oops, Episcopal Church, and four or five did. He promised them no reprisals, no persecution, no law suits. He kept his word. I wish I could say the same for TEC.

You pointed out my “venom” lol…Man, I sound like a black mamba! Glad you gave us all the sweet anti-venom of the Episcopal Church 🙂 I don’t have “venom,” universalist. I just am tired of Anglicans believing that truth is relative, that you can be Catholic without the responsibilities of being Catholic, that a sad political convenience for an overweight and angry king in the 16th century wanting a divorce is on a par with Orthodox and Roman Catholicism, and that there are multiple truths. Your post itself makes it clear that truth is not clearly defined and cannot be clearly defined, ever. A person who believes that Christ is not the Son of God and a person who does can be in the same congregation. A person who believes a baby is not a human life until it takes x amount of breaths and a pro-lifer can be in the same church. A person who believes in Eucharistic benediction and a person who throws the Eucharist to the doves in the park after “mass” can be in the same church? Remember “Bishop” Spong? The guy denied Jesus’ divinity! He was a horrific blasphemer but in Episcopal circles he commanded great respect and has written a slew of disgusting books. Hey, Universalist, it’s your salvation. I truly pray and am concerned about Anglicans. Forgive my lack of charity but I have to call a spade a spade. You’re following a church with no theology, no sense of truth, no legitimacy in orders, and a “tent” of contradictions. This isn’t the House of Representatives where deals are struck, this is CHRIST’S CHURCH. You make church sound like a Senate sub-committee where we can come to the table and negotiate our own Jesus. I disagree. See, I only used caps once!
Hank sought a decree of nullity. Usual thing, at the time.

I’ve read a lot about the CoE, too. Fascinating history.

A lot about the RCC, ditto.

A lot of Anglican traditionalists, such as I’m, left the Communion, long ago. And in the Communion, composed of autocephelous jurisdictions Cantaur was never really primus inter pares. It’s always been a toothless figurehead, outside the CoE.

As to my making it to Rome, recall my board name. I’ve been a collector and student of Chesterton for over 45 years. If my man couldn’t get me over the river, I doubt any mundane thing can.

Generally, the local rhetoric has been getting a tad bombastic for my tastes, of late.

Do you ever watch the incredible G K Chesterton on EWTN? Former Shakespeare aficionado, I equate Both Chesteron And the Professor who Began the Chesterton series on EWTN With Shakespeare. The Brilliance of their Minds, Words, Philosophies.

But Caution: watching the brilliance of Wisdoms, thoughts, Liturgy, Creativity, Humor on EWTN may lead to you also swimming the Tiber. Includes reruns of the pre-Double Strokes unscripted Mother Angelica Greatest wisdoms delivered In Humor. I returned to The Church Richly after years ‘not needing it; I’m good’, watching EWTN by chance. TY Mother Angelica!

Indeed we need to exchange bombast for Christian Humor and Wisdoms. 🤓 :tiphat: 😃

What VARC said. Let the dead bury the dead, bro. 😦

What do Anglicans call their ministers?
I imagine their church members, at times, call them many other things besides Father or Mother… 😉

If you mean the imitation by Chuck Chalberg, he never impressed me very much. There was an Australian, I believe (can only remember a first name of Tony), who did a very good Chesterton, around 30 years ago.

No, EWTN hasn’t done it for me either, I fear. Nor Belloc, who I have also collected for 45 years, Or Ronald Knox or Arnold Lunn, same-same. The list could be extended: books have been my primary hobby for over 50 years.

I always advocate the light touch, informed by history, myself.

Indeed, I forgot to mention the great Humor of Chesterton, Mother Angelica, others On this very site. Pope Benedict stated a few months ago that Humor is one of the principal ways to teach (Powerfully). 🍿 :yup: :hey_bud:

Thank you, I THINK? lol My points, IMO, dont get lost. I’ve said many times my feelings about Anglicanism and what I say sticks to that point in my opinion. Sorry you feel otherwise. As for the emotional baggage, not at all. I have no emotional baggage. The people in the Anglican church I went to were nice, caring, friendly, honest people. I had a lot of good times there. If I hadn’t had so many positive experiences, I wouldn’t have gone back there, right? But I do feel with all my heart that their teachings on women priests, the Eucharist, Church history, and sexual outlooks as well as divorce are extremely wrong. I have no emotional baggage, just some serious disagreement. I think the priest at our old church is a good man and believes what he says. But I think there’s a THICK layer of moral relativism in his beliefs and teachings. Sorry if my posts came off that way. I thank you for the compliments you started with!

There are a lot of folks in some Anglican churches whose views on those matters I find a mix of erroneous and toxic, myself. Hence, I’m where I am.

GKC

Umm, where are you? 😉
Right over here.

Oh. You mean as an Anglican, no doubt. In what is known as the Anglican Continuum, orthodox and traditional, and mainly Anglo-Catholic Anglicans not in communion with Canterbury, for reasons noted in this thread.

Then what keeps you from going Roman Catholic, GKC? I know I’ve probably asked you this in the past, just can’t remember your answer? You sound more Catholic than the Pope!

oh, OK! Being Ecumenically active, recently briefly toured an ancient in USA early 1800’s St Paul’s Anglican Church, Haymarket VA. The Pastor, called Priest, with Doctorate had been Episcopal, until the ‘controversies’, then changed to ‘Traditional’ Anglican. They have red Eucharistic candle, and genuflect passing it as Catholics do, And I did too. (Some things should be only known by God, not humans; Our intelligence and beliefs and logic are Humanly restricted.) Does traditional Anglican store consecrated hosts/bread as Catholics do? What type Eucharist? Same type venue at Your Church?
Am Traditional Catholic (Opposite of traditonalIST in Authenticity of last 3 Popes, Vatican II).

Generally speaking, yes to all your questions. Real Presence, Tabernacle, Blessed Body reserved, altar reverenced, because of the Presence, other traditional details. OTOH, not sure what a red eucharistic candle is. One would not genuflect to a candle.

Be aware that, in RC judgement, Anglican orders are (generally) ruled invalid. Hence, no Real Presence, etc.

Anglicans have other opinions on the matter.

I doubt seriously that I’m plus Catholique que le Pape, esp. than this Holy Father (for whom we pray, along with Bartholomew, at Mass), but I have found myself more traditionally Catholic than the occasional RC.

I have Papal issues, common to many Anglo-Catholics. And to Orthodox, for that matter.
