I haven’t heard much of it, though I am aware of its existence.I have occasionally tuned my radio to a station that plays CCM, and it was unobjectionable, but not very musically adept. The only CD of Christian music I have is by the Tallis Scholars – Palestrina and Allegri – not exactly CCM! 😃

I suppose they are probably considered “Protestant” but I love them anyhow! My favoirte is “In the Garden”… (And He walks with me and He talks with me… and tells me I am His own… ) And of course “How Great Thou Art.” I listen to a Randy Travis Gospel CD in my car all the time. It has all the older Southern favorites!

And to the OP - we listen to K-Love - Christain radio station. My kids like it more than I do. I agree that the lyrics can be very repetitive. But I’d pick that station 2nd only to Country.

I love the Randy Travis gospel cd’s! That’s what I listen to too!

Well, I’m not Catholic, so maybe I shouldn’t answer 🙂 , but I like quite a bit of Contemporary Christian music. My favorite group is probably Jars of Clay. My favorite album of all time, though, is called The Nothing Venture by Five O’Clock People. It’s the only “real” album they ever made, and they never really became famous. They did play the main stage once at the Creation Music Festival, though.
 
I listen to Christian music all the time.

I don’t care for it at mass, so I simply avoid Life Teen. Easy to do. But on the radio or when walking my dogs, I listen to the local Christian music station.

I have a few CD’s mixes of various artists, and I found that I like Barlow Girl, love Selah (even if they do have a fundamentalist or Baptist theology), and several others.

I’ve also heard others which made my hair stand on end. One of them was touted by that same Christian station as being a great song, but it was completely tuneless and uninspired. While the lyrics were something I could agree with, the beat was irregular and the music…well, wasn’t really music. Every time I hear it I turn the station. But then again, that happens with secular songs as well.
 
I just remembered that I do like a few songs by Zero Church. I don’t know if that qualifies as contemporary Christian music, though. They are a cappella, without guitars and such, the ones I like.
 
I recently was given two Matt Maher CD’s- “The End and the Beginning” and “Welcome to Life.” I lovedthem so much because they are contemporary/alternative but very Catholic. He even sings in Latin on a couple of songs, and he wrote a whole song about transubstantiation!!! I highly recomment both CD’s.

I love contemporary Christian music. My husband and I listen to a local Christian radio station frequently and enjoy the Newsboys (we went to their awesome “Adoration” concert tour last fall), Jars of Clay, Third Day, Todd Agnew, Caedmon’s Call, FFH, etc. etc. I also like John Michael Talbot and Cripsin for genuinely Catholic artists. For me it’s a good way to praise God since I love to sing. I would not care for this music at Mass and prefer more reverent, sacred music there. But as far as listening to it at home and in the car, I love it!
 
Too commercial for me .
Tires me out just keeping track of who’s who and number one.
No one really has explained what they mean by " contemporary" any way.
Is it anything post Vll or is it what mimics secular pop (holy pop) or what ?

I don’t care for the contemporary stuff at all. I was raised Protestant but am getting ready to attend RCIA. I like what I consider the old classics like “Will the Circle Be Unbroken”, “I’ll Fly Away”, “Just a Closer Walk With Thee”, etc. What do Catholics think of those kind of songs? Just curious. Are they considered Protestant??? Are my southern roots showing?

They are great songs. They are meant to be sung by large groups and they sound good when sung that way.

Many of the “Classics” require a lot of vocal range that obviously doesn’t encourage participation by the masses.

Your southern roots are showing. Be proud of them. The south is fast becoming a Catholic stronghold.
 
The name sounds Catholic or Catholic derived. does anyone know anything about this band?
 
Our Lady Peace is not a christian band, they just have a name that sounds like they are.

Anyway, I love christian rock. AirOne is a national christian radio station that plays great music, some slow and some upbeat and edgy. This is a great station for the christian rocker.
