What do eastern catholics think of St. Augustine and his teachings, and their theological influence of the latin church?

Dear Friend,

This Eastern Catholic believes that St Augustine and his teachings had a great influence on the Latin Church!

Also, that Byzantine Catholics prefer to stick with the Cappadocian and Alexandrian Fathers, thank you very much ! 🙂

A friend of mine is an EC priest in another city. When I visited him once, he took me on a (two hour) tour of the iconography of his magnificently appointed Church.

I could tell that he had Orthodox iconographers do the icons since when we got to the icon of St Augustine, it was inscribed with “Blessed Augustine.” 🙂

He couldn’t believe it when I showed him. I told him, “By getting Orthodox iconographers to do your church, you know you were just asking for trouble!” 😃

(Kidding . . .)

Some believe he is a Saint, and some do not. Most do though!!. And he is venerated by the Orthodox Church as a whole.

A FRIEND IN NEED IS THE FRIEND INDEED! Called by me.While this subject can be very touchy for most people, my opinion is that there has to be a middle or common ground that we all can find. I do appreciate that youve added relevant and intelligent commentary here though. Thank you!

To quote one Orthodox author whom I’ve forgotten.

Augustine is gifted to the Greeks as Cyril of Alexandria is gifted to the Latins. That fathers of seven councils are the patrimony of all christendom. But we must always take the faith of ALL the fathers together.
