What do I do? Did I sin?

I’ve recently prayed that the Holy Spirit would reveal all my sins to me so that I could confess them. I remembered a sin I committed several years ago that would be considered very serious. After remembering this sin, I still received communion a couple of times. Confession was available during at least one of those times but I didn’t take the opportunity to go. I went to confession a few days later and confessed the sin I remembered from years ago but forgot to confess that I had received Jesus in Holy Communion a few times knowing I had the sin on my soul. What should I do? Should I go back to confession and confess this?

First of all… calm down, take a deep breath, and trust in God.

OK: at the time that you committed the sin, did you know that it was ‘very serious’? Do you know now (or did you know then) that it was a ‘grave sin’ which might (under certain circumstances) be considered a mortal sin? If so, at the time that you sinned, did you do so intending to “be sinful”?

Yes, I knew what I did was seriously wrong when I did it. I was in a bad place spiritually at the time. My concern is more with the fact that I received communion after remembering it and before I confessed it.

If you’ve been to confession between the time you actually committed the sin and the time you remembered it, I’m pretty sure that absolution covered it.

God is not playing a game of “Gotcha! You are going to Hell!”.

That is not to make light of sin, nor of your prayer and subsequent remembering. Memory is an interesting thing, and accuracy is never 100%. It is entirely possible that you confessed it; but as another poster pointed out, when you made your last confession, it was done in honesty.

if it is bugging you, then go talk to the priest. God is a merciful and forgiving God; we still need to use the confessional to square up, but at the same time, He is not playing “Gotcha!”.
